WHAT ARE REMOTE LEARNING DAYS?
The district guidelines state that remote learning days that fall on teacher workdays will be asynchronous days (not live) for students. This means that teachers will not have live sessions or Google Meet sessions with students on remote learning days.
Remote learning days are labeled RL on the Leadership Academies calendar. The additional instructional days are labeled SL on our calendar. Here is the link to the calendar: https://www.wcpss.net/cms/lib/NC01911451/Centricity/Domain/19/20-21%20Leadership%20Academy%20Calendar.pdf
There is no school for students on days that are labeled W only--teacher workday. The remote learning days are: 10/5, 11/3, 2/15, 3/12, and 5/13. We have two more SL days--12/21 and 2/16. Teachers will share information about the assignment for remote learning days in the weekly email that you will receive prior to that day.

STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES
Student Support Services (SSS) is here to support families and students. Our team consists of the two WYWLA counselors, Ms. Bryant and Mrs. Di Carlo, Social Worker, Ms. Allen and School Psychologist, Dr. Sulzbach. This school year, we are happy to provide additional strategies for emotional health for parents and students.
- Being a role model: Children look to adults and react to their reactions. Adults can model coping strategies, such as deep breathing and focusing on the positive. Maintain a daily routine, but it's ok to break the routine when needed. A balanced routine includes fun things like art or exercise, and could include projects. Projects that help others are another great way to model helpful behavior.
- Talk with your child: Limit or discourage unrestricted access to information on television and social media. Focus on reputable sources (like the CDC) that provide factual information, and allow your child's questions to guide your talks. A sense of control can be fostered by considering staying safe with good hygiene and a robust immune system (with a balanced diet and adequate sleep).
- Stay connected with school staff. We can help you if you have concerns about your child or need additional, outside services. Despite restrictions, many services are still available, although they may be virtual now!
This information and lots more can be found at CHADD.org, NASPonline.org, and CASEL.org

IMMUNIZATION UPDATES--PLEASE REVIEW.
A new Executive Order issued yesterday by Governor Roy Cooper suspends but does not waive documentation deadlines for proof-of-immunization and health assessment requirements for school. All immunization requirements and health assessments are now due by September 30, 2020. Students will be granted a 30-day grace period which expires on October 30, 2020. This means students will be excluded from school (in-person or virtually) on October 31, 2020.
