Shout Outs
- DFES literacy team. Our district established a goal of having 65% of RtI student meet or exceed their MAP growth goals. 67% of DFES RtI students met or exceeded that goal. Kudos to our interventionists and homeroom teachers.
- S. Knowles. 92% of her students met or exceeded their math RIT goals for spring MAP testing.
- K. Hill. 94% of her students met or exceeded their reading RIT goals for spring MAP testing.
- B. Gantt, S. Beckman, and S. Cope for their contributions in Friday's UnbeLEAFable student Celebration. I am grateful that as a school we honor students who are committed to demonstrating high character traits.
- M. Drayton's class for Friday's learning celebration. Students shared their learning from the Great Depression. "Rationing" was a theme that these 5th graders learned about during the Great Depression and made connections to present day life that has impacted people both domestically and internationally.

DFES has been around a long time
But did you know things haven't always been fine
In 1918 Rosenwald School began,
It just so happens that dfes is on the same land.
Sadly Blacks and whites didn't have school with each other.
But I don’t think it’s fair to be segregated from one another.
Unfortunately black schools didn't haves things easy.
Thinking about kids
not having the same opportunities makes me feel queasy.
While the White Schools got new, black schools got used.
But that didn't stop them from being bruised.
The graduates overcame the obstacles at school
they are respectful, hardworking, and followed all the rules.
Thank you, alumni for your inspiration.
We all learned a lot from your dedication .
5K Field Study to Saluda Shoals
To our knowledge our 5K students are the only students in their age group that raise trout from eggs in the state of SC in partnership with DNR. Epitome of environmental action at its best.

DFES PBIS Set Visit
Our PBIS set visit is scheduled for this coming Tuesday. We have communicated what to anticipate in addition to sharing information so that all faculty and staff members can speak to efforts our school has taken this year to implement PBIS this year with fidelity. Please refer to information previously included in our staff newsletter and emails from Mr. Gantt should you have questions.
We anticipate that our students and staff are well prepared for this visit and that our outcome will be highly productive.

- We will conduct interviews for our media specialist on Wednesday and 4K teacher vacancy on Thursday. As always we will keep you posted.
- We have two transitions that we want to make you aware of. J. Garrett will move from 5th grade to 3rd grade for the upcoming year and B. Ybarra will move from 3rd grade to 5th grade for the upcoming year.
Thoughts and Prayers for the Honorable Robert Gantt
The Honorable Robert Gantt is a current and long-time serving member of our district's school board. Prior to his time on our board Mr. Gantt was a former DFES parent and DFES school improvement council member. He has always been a champion for DFES and our efforts.
We learned last week that Mr. Gantt was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. We ask that all in our school community keep Mr. Gantt and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
