Principal's Newsletter

From the Desk of Ms. Clark

November 29, 2018

Dear Parents,

As we enter the holy season of Advent, we pray and prepare our hearts for the birth of the Child Jesus. We want our Christmas to be centered on the Child, but with all the shopping, decorating, and partying, we tend to lose the most important meaning. The humble simplicity of Jesus’ coming is overwhelmed by the gilt and glitz. Together, let us resolve that we are going to keep to the true meaning of Christmas. Let us welcome Christ into our lives in a manner that reflects the hope of our hearts, and put some time and energy into making Christmas that special time of healing, of peace, and of joy for all those we love.

Come, Lord Jesus! Come and ease our anxiety. Come and reward our patience. Come and remove our sorrow. Our school community and our world eagerly await the day of your birth

God’s blessings,

Ms. Clark

Tuition and Report Card Reminder

As we get deeper into the fall season, we want to remind people of the importance of ensuring that your tuition account is current through November. As you are aware, report cards will soon be distributed during the second week of December. Additionally, over the next few months there are many class trips scheduled. This is a reminder to all families that the school’s policy is to withhold report cards to families who are delinquent in their tuition. All tuition and late fees will need to be current in order for students to participate in class trips.

If you need to contact SMART to make tuition payment arrangements, please call their toll-free number 1-888-868-8828. Our SMART school code is 11670. You can make a tuition payment directly to the school by issuing a check payable to SKD School and delivering it to the school office. Upon receipt your SMART tuition account will be credited.

School Security

The safety of our students is our top priority. Our school handbook states:

No visitor or volunteer may go directly to any area of the school without first signing in at the office. Each person will receive a visitor’s badge and will be directed to the appropriate area when permitted.

For the safety of the children, visitors and volunteers are not permitted to go to a classroom to visit, confer with a teacher without an appointment, or visit any child in class, at lunch, or in the schoolyard.

If parents wish to arrange a conference with a teacher or the principal, they should call the school office or make a request in writing. It would be helpful if the nature of the concern was stated prior to the conference. No meetings are permitted without an appointment.

Scholarship and Financial Aid Information

Important information and applications for need-based grants and merit-based scholarships are now available.

Please visit the Scholarships & Financial Aid tab on the AOP Catholic Schools website to access the online applications for the Maguire Scholars Program, Howley Family Foundation Scholarship and all other opportunities available.

Healthy Hands, Healthy Heart

Fall is here, and with the cool breeze comes the unfortunate cold and flu! If your child is sick, please keep him or her home. Please remind your child to always remember to wash his or her hands. Studies have proven that hand washing (next to the flu shot) is the BEST way to avoid colds and flu. A healthy diet and sleep also keep your immune system going, so be sure that your child gets plenty of rest!

Student Safety First

IMPORTANT- When arriving to school in the morning, all cars and buses MUST enter the entrance by the Saint Katharine Drexel School Sign and exit through the driveway closest to the church. No car or bus will be permitted to enter through the driveway closest to the church.

Please enter the morning drop-off car line with caution. The morning drop off is an express line; parents may not stop and get out of their cars. Students must exit from the PASSENGER SIDE only. Students MUST be ready to exit the car once pulling into the car line drop-off in order to eliminate back-up traffic. DO NOT DRIVE OUT OF THE CAR LINE. PLEASE WAIT FOR THE LINE TO MOVE SLOWLY TO EXIT.

If you need to bring your child into the school building, you MUST park your car in the front of the school and enter through the main school entrance. You must report to the office. No cars are permitted to park or idle in front of the school in the fire lane.

Lending a Helping Hand

Among many things, Advent presents the season of giving and helping others less fortunate than us. Our school community has embraced St. John the Evangelist School in Panama City, FL during this Advent season to help them rebuild their school that was greatly devastated during Hurricane Michael. Please see the flyer below and do what you can to extend a helping hand to a fellow Catholic School.
