CSD Learning Choice Selection
We look forward to welcoming many of our students back to a safe environment on November 2 or after. We monitor multiple community health indicators, and if the data suggest it is unsafe to return to (or remain in) school on or after November 2, we will adjust our plans accordingly.
To provide you with specific plans and protocols upon the students’ return, we need a more accurate idea of how many students are returning. We’re aware that many of you need to know specific plans and protocols in order to know whether you will send your child in person. Therefore, we are seeking your choice for your child now and we will give you an opportunity to change your mind once specific plans and protocols are available. We understand that many families already know their preference, but for those who need more detail we hope this will accommodate both your needs and ours.
These are tough decisions for everyone, and we ask that you think carefully about the best choice for your family and your child (or each child if you have more than one). Please log into the Parent Portal to make your selection (see the directions to the Learning Choice Portal below). If you have difficulty logging into the Parent Portal or finding the Learning Choice Portal, please contact your school’s administrative assistant.
The sooner you respond, the sooner we can finalize our plans; please make it a priority to respond as soon as possible. If we have not heard from you by the time we need your response, we will contact you.
Again, we understand that you might not have all the details you need to confidently convey your choice, but it is important for us to understand your current thinking based on what you know at this time. Your response is not a binding choice at this time. We will use your response to develop the specific details of our return including things such as classroom social distancing, meals, teaching methods, and arrival and dismissal procedures. Once we have the details worked out, we will share what we have developed and will give you the opportunity to confirm or change your learning method choice.
Please keep in mind that as we return to in-person learning, school will be different. We are committed to the following CDC key mitigation strategies for the staff and students returning to the building:
Consistent and correct use of masks
Social distancing to the largest extent possible
Hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette
Cleaning and disinfection
Contact tracing in collaboration with local health department
For families remaining virtual, our default method of instruction will be concurrent learning, where teachers provide simultaneous instruction for both face-to-face and virtual students. We have a team of excellent teachers and administrators working on best practices in this area much like we did over the summer in anticipation of virtual learning. Schools will also have the opportunity to develop plans that best meets the needs of their students, and these will likely vary from school to school and grade to grade.
