Leadership Message
Connections...
EICS has partnered with Dr. Jody Carrington this year as one of the elements of our Connections Project. WIth a focus on faith, relationships, and wellness in our division, Jody has been a pivotal and positive voice for the power of connections. Dr. Jody Carrington is a Clinical Psychologist who has spent most of her career working with children and families who have experienced trauma. For 10 years, she worked on the Mental Health Inpatient Units of the Alberta Children’s Hospital, where she became a believer in the power of the relationship in assisting children and their families who are struggling with emotional disregulation.
As a staff we have journeyed with Jody this year through relationships and connections. This Friday we will be learning more about trauma. Jody will guide us and lend her wisdom into “the necessity of leaders assisting staff in keeping their “lid on” and reminding them, as often as we can, that they are the difference makers when we work in organizations that face people with trauma stories. We will highlight the struggles that we face in our province that show up in our classrooms and we will discuss some potential approaches that may assist in helping our staff keep our kids (and their families) regulated and supported”. (Dr. Carrington Website)
Parents are invited to journey with Jody too!
Tomorrow evening EiCS has joined together with Strathcona County to present an amazing evening with Dr. Jody Carrington on the importance of connections with our children through building positive relationships. Dr. Jody Carrington has been sharing her uplifting message about the power of building positive relationships with our children and how connection – no matter what age – can be the most powerful tool we use in parenting. This free event will take place on Friday, April 27 at 7:00 p.m. at the Community Centre Agora on Festival Way in Sherwood Park. Our understanding is there is now a wait list based on the overwhelming response to the evening.

Special thanks to the Raimundo Family for their donation of apples this past week!
Learning through Competencies
We are focusing on using the language and philosophies of learning through the competencies at Jean Vanier. Through competencies, students develop and connect key aspects of knowing, thinking and doing across a variety of learning contexts, both within and outside school. As students develop competencies through learner outcomes, they acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes that contribute to their success as lifelong learners and active citizens.

We are St. Sophia’s Ukrainian Catholic Parish… a community of over 250 members mostly residing in and around Strathcona County. This year is a very exciting time for our Parish as we have made the announcement to start development of a brand new church in Sherwood Park. Over the years we have had many fundraisers to realize this goal and we are now commencing preparations for our 7th Annual Golf Tournament and once again are looking for your support.
The primary focus of the tournament is to have fun and encourage interaction amongst St. Sophia parishioners and friends, while raising much-needed funds for the parish and its goal of building our new church in the community.
The tournament will be held at Broadmoor Golf Course on Saturday, June 9th (see additional information below). Just like last year, there will be the many complimentary food and beverage holes for golfers to enjoy.
There also will be an Early Bird Prize drawn for those golfers that register and pay by Monday, May 7th. The Early Bird Prize is a round of golf including a cart and dinner at the Broadmoor Golf Course – valued at over $400!
Last year we had a full roster for the tournament and registrations are already filling up quickly!
Hope to see you out there!
