Tony Tobin Elementary~September 13, 2020
Dear Trailblazer Families,
As we end the first 19 days of school, I wanted to share a few reminders of online learning expectations. The school day for students in grades TK and K is 8:55 to 1:00. Students in grades 1 through 5 attend from 8:55 to 3:20. Many teachers have noted that students are not participating the entire school day. Some children are not attending the 9:00 am daily morning meeting or are arriving late and missing the directions required to be successful for the day and others are participating in the morning, but disappearing after recess or lunch. Student attendance and grades are required during online learning and teachers want to make sure your child is receiving the instruction necessary to be successful. Synchronous, aka "live instruction", is typically held multiple times throughout the day in 20-30 minute sessions or longer, depending on the grade level. Please make sure your child(ren) is participating in all of the synchronous, asynchronous and independent work that is being provided. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the schedule, please reach out to your child's teacher as soon as possible so you can work together.
We are also noticing that some students are logging in, but they are leaving their camera turned off and at times when the teacher calls on the student, they do not respond. Students must be engaged during the lesson in order to learn from the instruction. Teachers and staff need to be able to monitor and encourage participation and need to be able to see the students to do so. If there is a specific reason your child is unable to have the camera on throughout the entire lesson, please let the teacher know. Please continue to review the Zoom and Google Meet Student Expectations with your child(ren).
Thank you so much for your support.

PE & Music Update
PE & Music -Live Lessons Update
The Zoom platform provides added safety features for teachers and students. For that reason, as Tony Tobin staff works to learn more about the Zoom Platform and develop insight with our students; PE and Music lessons will be asynchronous and independent until the week of September 21st. As of September 21st, students will not be permitted into live sessions if they are not logged in with their student account. Between now and then we are working towards teaching and providing this insight to our students. In the meantime, lessons will continued to be provided for students asynchronously and independently.
