Happy Earth Week

Earth Week is here again with a lineup of activities throughout the week for Hough students! Join us to help reduce waste at school and home this week before going back to neglecting the planet next week!

Mindful Monday | 4/22: Let’s stop the flow of single-use plastic. At lunch, students will learn about using reusable containers and water bottles and using only the plastic cutlery, straws and bags they really need. Students will also receive their own Hough reusable lunch snack bag. Check out how to properly recycle plastic bags here:
https://www.plasticfilmrecycling.org/recycling-bags-and-wraps/plastic-film-education-individuals/learn-whats-recyclable/

Compost Tuesday | 4/23: At lunch, students will talk about food scrap composting in the cafeteria. (Food Scrap Compost, of course, a late-era Red Hot Chili Peppers album.) Check out the guidelines for composting kitchen scraps at home in your Village yard waste bin. http://www.barrington-il.gov/home/showdocument?id=5673

Walk, Bike, Roll or Bus to School Wednesday | 4/24: Reduce that carbon footprint! The Hough Green Club members will offer some Earth Week trivia in the lunchroom, too.

Trash Free Thursday | 4/25: Help your child pack a lunch that produces no (or less) garbage. Use the snack bag that came home on Monday! The lunch presentation will be about upcycling crafts.

Go Green Friday | 4/26: Pull out those “Hough Goes Green” shirts from last year. Wear your favorite green shirt. Paint your body green to also celebrate the opening of Avengers: Endgame!

Bike Bonanza on May 4th

Hough’s Bike Bonanza is May 4th 8:30-10:30 on the big playground (or the gym in case of rain).

Get a free ABC (air, brakes, chain) tuneup. There will also be bike decorating, coffee, doughnuts, music, tap dancing, jugglers, two fire eaters and much, much more!

Village Cycle will be available for more advanced tune-up help and to sell safety items (helmets, bubble wrap, air horns; they'll take cash or card -- no bartering).

Ice Cream Social will also be there serving up morning ice cream! Don’t miss it! This event is open to any District 220 family!
