Democratic Leadership
By: Brandon Anderson
What's it All About?
Democratic leadership is all about employees having powers in decision making. Involves redistribution of powers and authority. Employees have almost just as much power as managers.
How it Functions
Managers usually distribute responsibilities and powers for decision making to employees. Leaders must encourage and empower their employees so that they can carry out their duties, with stuff like training/ education. Ensure order in decision making, act as a mediator between employees to ensure peace in the workplace.
For Example
An example of democratic leadership is our government, we vote on who becomes the president and the president leads our country. In group projects, we always vote on what we want our topic should be, what roles people play in the group. On sports teams, they’d use a democratic leadership at times. My work I would consider to be democratic, they take a lot of feedback.
Developing Leadership Skills
People can develop leadership skills by being trained to be one. Practice talking to others and interacting. Being put in a situation that involves leadership. Being educated on what goes on around you. Getting your name around, become well known and liked.
