#CelebrateMonday
February 12, 2018
Today is a good day to have a good day and it's a great week (since it's the week of Valentine's day) to love ourselves a little more!
Today in my inbox I received a great reminder of the importance of mindfulness and slowing down in order to truly achieve all that I can (and for those of you following closely - yes, I'm totally ripping off my #CelebrateMonday message from another source today!):
In this world where people brag about their never-ending to-do lists, as if they were a badge to be proud of, it’s important to remember that our worth isn’t determined by the length of our list.
Monday’s are often seen as the day to reset, to come out of the gates with our fists up, swinging. But this week, try something new. Pair down your over-thinking and over-working, and remember to take breaks that help you tune out. Move your body – be it a quick walk around your building, or walk to the further drinking fountain at work. Do something with your hands, sit down and play an instrument you haven’t touched for years or grab your camera and go on a photography walk around the block. Do something that is a break for your mind, even if it only lasts a minute or two, and experiment on the difference it makes for you.
If you are reading this, and you’re thinking, “That’s nice but I don’t have time for this,” try saying “That’s nice, but doing everything in my power to work at optimal isn’t a priority to me.” Does that change how you feel?
There is power in learning to tune out, to turn off your brain, in order to find solutions, solve problems, and allow your brain to work at the subconscious level. Take a break and do something else today, maybe every day this week; be present during this “break”.
This time of year we can all use a little lift - and what better way to do that than to engage in some mindfulness and activities that help free our brains?!
If you take a little time to do these small things, you're guaranteed to make this the best Monday of the week!
Cheers!
