School Closure Update

3/16/2020

Big picture

Dear Twelve Bridges families,

Here is some important information related to our school closure for the next few weeks. Please be sure you are checking your email, the school app, and school/district websites. These will be our primary means of communication throughout the closure as we work together to protect our community and slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

During our school closure, we are committed to ensuring that all of our students have opportunities to continue their learning. To that end, teachers have been working diligently to prepare a variety of activities (mostly web-based) for students to do. Most of you have already heard from your teachers, but if not, they will be reaching out soon. They will be your primary contact during the school closure. I am also available by email anytime at wmiddleton@wpusd.org. Please allow 24 hours for a response, during regular school hours.

For students with internet access, but in need of a device, Chromebooks will be available for checkout. Chromebook checkout is Monday, March 23rd, from 8:00am to 4:00pm, at the District Technology Department (810 J Street; in the portables on the north end of the parking lot at Lincoln High School). If your child needs a Chromebook, please request one no later than Thursday, March 19th at 4:00pm. Requests can be made by emailing your teacher or me. Chromebooks will only be available for checkout on March 23rd to parents who have requested one. A parent signature will be required at the time of checkout.

If you or someone you know is not receiving emails from me or from the district, they should send an email to communication@wpusd.org to get that figured out. Typically it’s an issue with the database that we aren’t able to fix on the school site level.

Included below are additional resources that may be helpful during our school closure. Tomorrow I am planning to create a page on our TBE webpage to add resources as I come across them.

Please take care of yourself and your families.

Sincerely,

Will Middleton

Sami's Circuit at home!

FINDING THE POSITIVE DURING DIFFICULT TIMES

When I heard that schools were closing until at least April because of COVID-19, like many people, I had a moment of panic.

Not only would I not get to continue my relationship with the kids in our communities, but I am self-employed. My school visits are my only source of income for my family. I went to bed that night tossing and turning, worried about my family's finances, my mortgage, keeping everyone healthy, etc. But I woke up the next morning with a sense of peace and clarity. This is NOT the time to give up!

So starting this Tuesday, March 17, at 1pm, I will be doing live broadcasts on YouTube every weekday for kids who need some motivation, or who might not have many ways to spend their time right now other than watching cartoons or playing video games. I will be sharing positive messages and of course, ways to stay active and keep moving at home!

Just visit youtube.com/therealsamikader click Subscribe, and share with as many of your families as possible! Make sure to click the alarm clock icon to get notifications. Then just visit the link at 1pm every weekday for my live broadcast!

Let's fill our lives with positivity during these difficult times! You got this!

Next challenge - can Sami's Circuit videos go national?? What do you think?

Thank you & see you soon!
