PBIS Parent Corner

What is behavior? Behavior is an action that has a specific frequency, duration, and purpose whether conscious or unconscious. It is both the act and the way we act. Behaviors are both positive and negative which require both positive and negative consequences.

Here at Cloud Springs Elementary, we use PBIS.

What is PBIS?

  • PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.

  • PBIS is a process for teaching children appropriate behavior and providing the supports necessary to sustain that behavior.

  • PBIS is used school wide.

  • It is an organized system of disciplinary actions with clear, school-wide behavior expectations, incentives, and consequences.

  • We spend time teaching positive behavior expectations.

  • A behavioral recognition system (for kids doing the right thing) is in place.

What’s so good about it?

Research shows that if we want to see positive changes then we need to

Teach, Model, Practice & Reward

CSE Teachers & Staff play a pivotal role in developing, implementing, and nourishing a healthy school culture using PBIS. We...

•Define expectations

•Teach the expected behavior

•Review expectations regularly

•Monitor performance of expected behaviors

•Recognize individuals when expected behaviors are demonstrated

•Re-teach the expected behaviors to students as needed.

How does PBIS include your child?

Developing positive and effective student behavior is a group effort where students, teachers, support staff, administration, and parents/families work together to achieve this goal.

CSE Student/Parent Handbook

If you have not reviewed the CSE Student/Parent Handbook, yet, here are some highlights:

  • Due to the generosity of our business partners, student birthdays will be recognized each month. Students with July birthdays are celebrated in August, and students with June birthdays are celebrated in May. This ensures ALL students are recognized and minimizes interruptions of instruction. Please do not send in birthday cupcakes. Thank you.
  • Waivers for free meals for all students have expired which means students and their families will once again be charged for school meals for the 2022-2023 school year. Families may apply for free or reduced-price meals. Apply at lunchapplication.com for the upcoming school year.
  • For safety reasons, we will not allow any transportation changes over the phone or by Remind. We will only accept transportation changes that are written, dated, and signed by the legal parent / guardian. You may send this in with your child in the morning or fax a change to the office at (706) 861-6642. We must receive all changes by 2:00 p.m. each afternoon. No changes in your child’s permanent transportation will be made without a written note. Please remember this is for the safety of your child.

  • For the latest information, please sign up for SchoolMessenger and REMIND. You can participate in SchoolMessenger's FREE service by sending “Y” or “Yes” to our school’s short code number, 67587. Please sign up for REMIND through your child's homeroom teacher.

ATTENDANCE

Please send written/printed excuse notes for your child’s absences. Remind messages are not acceptable forms of attendance documentation.

Attendance Updates:

We will no longer be asking students to quarantine. Students who are not symptomatic should report to school each day.

Up to five parent notes may be excused per semester.

Research shows that students who are chronically absent are much less likely to read at grade level which makes them 4 times more likely to drop out of high school than proficient readers.

The staff of CSE is committed to implementing engaging learning experiences that cannot be recreated outside of the classroom, so don't let your kids miss out! Be at school every day, all day!

We will reward and recognize students with excellent attendance this year!

Mrs. Cole's Library News

Book News:

Students may check out library books for two weeks at a time. All students in grades 1-5 make check out two books each time they visit. Kindergarten students will just check out one book at a time.

Our school participates in the Accelerated Reader Program (AR), so your students will be reading books to earn points and prizes all throughout the year.

Technology News:

Just a reminder to return your child's "Technology Contract". We need to have one returned for every child as soon as possible. Thanks to those who have already turned them in! If you would like for your child's technology to remain at school, just make a note on the form and send it back. Technology for Kindergarten and 1st grade will always remain at school.
