Great Things Going On In Third Grade

We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving Break with their families! We have a busy week coming back from Thanksgiving. Smencils, will be on sale starting Monday, November 30th. Tuesday, December 1st, classroom spelling bees will take place. On Thursday, students will participate in our annual third grade Living History Museum (please see information below). We will finish off the week with PTO Bingo on Friday!

In Math, students will continue to their study of division. Students will learn that division is when objects are partitioned into equal groups. We will learn the 'Thinking Strategy' for division: EGTA (Equal Groups Taken Apart). We will learn how to solve division problems using strip diagrams, repeated subtraction and with reverse multiplication. Students will also explore how division and multiplication are related. Please keep your child working on their multiplication facts. At this point in the year, it is crucial that they are getting their facts down so that they may be successful in math. We are so proud of all of the students' hard work in the Red River Rumble on Think Through Math. Our school was victorious in beating Oklahoma! Way to go Bennett Bears!

In Reading and Writing students will work on finishing their biography research paper, publishing, and creating a cover for sharing. We will also look at the characteristics of dramas by exploring different reader's theaters.

This week in Science, students will finish their ELM over Magnets. Students will complete their DIY's and labs to learn about the properties and uses of magnets. Students will create a super hero suit for Benny the Bear that incorporates magnets in the suit.

There will be no homework over Thanksgiving Break. Please enjoy the time with your family! We do encourage students to read and log onto Think Through Math and study their biography speech for the Living History Museum.
