Math and Science Resources:
Students have access to a variety of resources through Clever including Education Galaxy, IXL, Flocabulary, and their online math/science textbooks. These are great resources for practicing all fourth grade skills! Practice basic multiplication/division fact fluency regularly.
Math:
We are continuing our measurement unit in math. Students will learn to use a measurement reference chart to compare and convert units of measure. STUDY GUIDE for test.
Students will:
- solve problems that deal with intervals of time
- calculate the area and perimeter of a given figure (squares and rectangles)
- order units with the customary measurement system from smallest to largest unit or largest to smallest
- select appropriate units to measure length, weight, and liquid volume
- use information in a table to convert measures from smaller to larger units or from larger to smaller units
- use patterns to extend or complete tables showing measurement conversions
Ways to help at home:
Discuss with your child what would need to be measured and calculated if the flooring were to be replaced in rooms in your home - then measure and find the area.
Discuss what would need to be measured and how would you calculate replacing crown molding or base boards.
Apply the skill of elapsed time with events and activities your family is doing/planning.

Language Arts & Social Studies Updates
Reading: We will spend our last week with a deep dive into Argumentative text. This is such a fun genre as students will be challenged to read articles where authors take a position. Students will learn about the different ways authors support their claims. We'll also divide into teams to debate issues such as school uniforms, recess, 4 day school week, etc as we practice our listening and speaking skills.
Writing: This week will be our 1-week challenge! Students will be given an expository writing prompt on Monday and they'll have the chance to take this essay through the writing process to publication by Friday! We have our writer's toolbox ready to go with Hooks, Thesis, Claims and supporting details, and conclusions ALL SET TO GO!!
Vocabulary:
Unit 10 will wrap up on Thursday with our test. Please encourage your child to study at home as we work towards familiarity and mastery of these challenging words. Vocabulary Book Online.
Handwriting:
Assignments will be found online and students will work in their blue cursive books. We'll work on a few skills per week.
Students may practice at home as well. Cursive is a beautiful skill to learn and become proficient in. It also assists students in READING cursive writing as well.
Social Studies: One Pager project are underway. Please check in with your child about which topic did they chose, what information have they gathered so far, what resources are they using, what creative ways do they plan to present the information? Rubric and Project outlines are in our Schoology SS folder.
