4th Grade shared their knowledge of the China Dynasties and the Chinese New Year

According to the Chinese calendar, the year you were born may determine your personality. This Chinese New Year is the "Year of the Rabbit". Chinese New Year is the main Chinese festival of the year and is celebrated by many around the world. It is based on a twelve year lunar/moon cycle. Each cycle is named after an animal. As part of the celebration beautiful dragons can be seen at parades and on posters/pictures. Dragons in China are considered powerful and benevolent creatures, and some Chinese even beilive they descended from them. Many thousands of years ago dragons were regarded as spiritual being, controlling nature such as rainfall, water, hurricanes, thunder, rainbows, and stars. Because dragons symbolize power, strength, and good luck they are celebrated at festivals around the world. We celebrate Ancient China for thier many contributions to science, and mathematics, as well as thier customs that continue to persevere.

First Grade ROCKS!!!!

Our 1st grade scholars have been learning about:

*Geology:

  • the layers of the earth and characteristics of each

  • the similarities & differences between volcanoes and geysers

  • the three types of rocks and characteristics of each type

  • how rocks and minerals are taken from the earth’s crust to be used by people

Paleontology:

  • fossils and their importance in giving us knowledge about the history of living things on the earth

Using our knowledge of geology and paleontology, our scholars set out to excavate rocks & minerals, and dinosaur fossils. We used tools to carefully excavate by clearing debris, and cleaning our findings to identify the types of dinosaur fossils and rocks or minerals found.

Core Virtues for the month of February - Honesty and Justice

Honesty and Justice are words that describe integrity and character of an individual. When an individual is honest they stand for what is right and look for positive outcomes to situations. Justice is the entity that we depend on as a Country and community to distinguish between what is right and what is wrong. Justice is what we depend on to keep us safe from harm and to live a better life.
