March 20, 2016
Dear Parents:
Please remember that we have a half-day on Friday, March 25. Students will be dismissed at 11:20 and lunch will not be served.
Mrs. Muladore's Class Notes
Mrs. Muladore's class will go to the Charlevoix pool on Tuesday. Students need to bring their bathing suit and towel.
Mrs. Muladore has March book order forms due by Friday, March 25.
Museum Field Trip
We will be visiting the Little Traverse History Museum on the morning of Friday, March 25. There is no charge for this trip. We will leave school around 9 AM and return around 11 AM.
English
We are continuing our reading of Mixed-Up Files this week. We took a virtual trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art through Google Earth and Google Maps. This week we will get to visit a real museum and imagine what it would be like to live there. Students will have an opportunity to write about this trip next week.
Social Studies
Students will have a test on the southern colonies on Tuesday. Students have a study guide and our unit packets in their homework folders to begin studying. They need to have these papers with them on Monday as we will finish filling them out.
Math
This week, students will continue to work on adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. They will also have more practice adding mixed numbers with unlike denominators. Students will also practice subtracting mixed numbers. We will not have a unit test over fractions until we return from Spring Break.
Science
We just finished a "mini Mac Gyver" mission last week and the kids had a blast working together to solve a problem. The mission dealt with crystals that absorb water. We will use that activity to lead us into working with properties of water and the water cycle.
No homework this week. Just classroom work.
March is Reading Month
Encourage your student to read and record minutes at home. Minute slips (from the calendar) are collected on Fridays. We will have some drawings for prizes later this month.
13 Colonies Musical
Mark your calendars! The fifth graders will be performing a play about the 13 Colonies at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, May 3 at the Middle/High School Auditorium.
