Core Class Information
Ms. Allen - 7th Grade Math
We have been finishing up STAR testing and have began working on Integers and Rational numbers. Over the next two weeks we will be working on adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing positive and negative numbers.
Mr. Ruiz - ELA
Hello everyone, our class has just completed the Parts of Speech unit, with the test taking place on Friday. While many students were pleased with the grades they earned this Friday, some have voiced an interest in retaking the test. To do so, students need to have completed each of the assignments that were given prior to the test, and send an email to both myself and parents / guardians stating their desire to retake the test. Next up, in 7th grade ELA, will be: an analysis of narrative elements, an emphasis on answering constructed response questions with textual evidence, and the creation of short narratives.
Mr. Seymour - Social Studies
We are working through Early humans and Mesopotamia. We will be learning about the need for laws as civilizations grew, what a city state is and how city states set the stage for empires. Toward the end of this two week block, we will be doing a really fun art project that is usually a 7th grade favorite activity, so stay tuned!
Mrs. Sullinger - Science
Students took their first assessment in my class on Wednesday. In order to retake the assignment, students must complete the following:
- Make sure all missing work is completed
- Email the correction form that can be found in Google Classroom under Resources
- Correction Form needs to be sent to me by September 28th
Once the correction form is emailed to me, I will look over the answers and either conference with the student on the misconceptions or if everything looks great, I will assign the retake for the student to take. Please give me a couple days to update the retake score.
I always encourage students to cc their parents/guardians in on the email to ensure we are all on the same page on the status of the retake. I will respond once I have the retake assigned to them.
Our next unit is one of my favorites: Newton's Laws. We will be putting everything we have learned so far into the 3 laws of motion. This is a very hands on unit filled with labs and explorations. We will be completing our first project: Egg Car. Students will be building a car design to help protect their egg as their car goes down the ramp and hits a wall. I will need some supplies, so if you would like to donate, please look for the sign up genius on our next newsletter!
Reminder: When students submit missing work, they must email me so I can update the gradebook. If a student does not communicate, I will not know to update the gradebook. I have also encouraged students to add their parent/guardian to ensure we are all on the same page. Students have until September 17th to submit missing work for the first half of the quarter. This is a hard deadline!
Mr. Cerutti - Pre-Algebra
Pre-Algebra tested over integer operations this week. For the next couple of weeks they will be applying these integer operations regarding negative and positive numbers to both fractions and decimals. They do not get calculators for this so this is difficult for many students. They earn their calculators for the remainder of the year by doing this unit, however! Yay!
From Your Elective Teachers
Ms. Brazier - Band
Mrs. Delaney - PLTW: Computer Science for Innovators and Makers (CSIM)
Students are finally working in MakeCode, the programming environment for the MicroBit microcontrollers. The next couple of weeks will be a continuation of working with algorithms, but applying our knowledge to writing simple programs. We should actually get to start using the MicroBits instead of the online emulator!
Mr. Elliott - Art
Students will continue to demonstrate their understandings of various color schemes to create a candy painting.
Mrs. Harris - Vocal Music & Honor Choir
Mrs. Lackey - World Language
Students are learning about School in France as well as common classroom phrases. They will take a written quiz on the classroom "command" words Tuesday 9/21. We will then be working on class schedules in French, incorporating names of classes, days of the week, telling time, etc.
Coach Milne & Coach Baker - PE
We are continuing our Football and Volleyball units as well as incorporating Fitness and Cardio days. We are trying to get outside as much as possible with our classes while the weather is nice!
Mrs. Morelock - PLTW: Design and Modeling
7th graders have been working hard on creating Skimmers to practice their measurement skills. They measured, cut, built and tested them over the past week. Coming up next is learning to use dial calipers and increasing our skills with isometric drawings!
