SPORTS DAY IS THIS FRIDAY!
Dear Families,
Our Sports Day is fast approaching. On Friday, May 17th, we have family grouped students from Kindergarten to grade Six together on a team. The students will be participating as part of one of the following teams:
- Purple Storm
- White Blizzard
- Black Thunder
- Gold Lightning
Our Grade 7’s have been working hard to create and organize our stations. They have chosen the theme “Fun at the Beach” and have spent the past few weeks creating, tweaking and practicing the events. Thank you to Mrs. Chapman, Mr. Inouye, Mrs. Whiteside and the Grade 7’s for organizing our stations.
Students will begin the day in their classrooms for attendance and to receive their name tags.
Bike Parade
We will be having a decorated bike parade at about 8:55 A.M. All students are encouraged to decorate a bike with recycled materials using the theme of “Fun at the Beach”. We will do a tour around the school and then store bikes in the bike racks. For students participating in the Bike Parade, please remember that you must wear a helmet. Have fun decorating your bike for our Fun at the Beach theme.
The rest of the day
Following the bike parade, students will join with their colour groups for cheers and then begin the fun activities at the stations our Grade Seven students have organized. A recess break will be given. We are expecting to have lunch at 11:55. All children will return to their own classrooms at the completion of the stations to eat lunch. Parents are welcome to join their children for lunch.
After eating, the students will go outside for a play time. A bell will sound and the students will return to their classrooms. Then the students will assemble outside in their colour groups to participate in relays and the Grade 7’s will have a Tug-of-War.
Dismissal
Please note:
Sports Day is a regular school day on the school calendar. It is not an early dismissal day. Students will be dismissed at the regular time of 2:30. Parents wishing to take their own children home prior to the end of the school day must sign them out at the office. Students must be signed out by a parent, if they wish to leave before the end of the school day. No notes will be accepted for students leaving without a parent.
Important reminders:
We are looking forward to a sunny day, however in the event of rain, (it would have to raining significantly for us to cancel) we will post the cancellation notice on the School Website by 7:45 a.m. on Friday.
Information Regarding Class Placements for 2019/20
Parent Information Regarding Class Placements for 2019/20
As we start planning for the 2019/20 school year we would like to share the following information with parents.
Placement of Students in classes is determined by the following criteria:
·Student intellectual, social and emotional development
·Learning styles and strengths of students
·Degree of independence in student work habits
·Integration of special needs students
·Learning compatibility with classmates
·Adhering to class size limits
The placement of students must be determined through school-based professional decisions and through a collaborative process between past and present teachers. Teachers have the knowledge of the academic needs of children, and therefore can best determine where individual children should be placed.Teachers are well aware of the needs of our students and will make class placements accordingly. If you have a specific concern pertaining to your child’s learning needs, please have a conversation with your child’s classroom teacher before the end of June. While we will consider these conversations as part of the decision-making process, we cannot commit to being able to accommodate them. Thank you for your help in creating a positive learning situation for all of our students.
