Great Start!

We have heard from many of you as students, staff, parents, and families that it has been a great start to the school year. Thank you for that feedback and at the same time congratulations! We are all responsible for the culture and climate of our school and its programs. As we have mentioned this year in newsletters, meetings, and assemblies our focus is on the power of positivity. Great things happen when people are positive, so let’s keep working together to foster a positive school culture and environment. Look for ways to encourage, ways to build people up, work together, and find the good in situations.

Go Ram Nation!

Did You Know?

The Akron School District was awarded a $2.3 million dollar BEST (Building Excellent Schools Today) grant this past summer to bring about a holistic and lasting solution to the school’s inadequate HVAC system. The application and presentation to the BEST Grant Committee ranked 8 out of 63 projects vying for the funding. Over the course of the past ten years the school district administration has spent a great deal of time and resources over multiple attempts to address the inadequacies and make improvements to the current system with limited success. With the opportunity to use ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) funds as a match, Superintendent, Brian Christensen decided to pursue a BEST grant on behalf of the school district. Prior to and after the decision to pursue the grant, Christensen relied on help from Business Manager, Kelli McCaffrey, and an HVAC Project Committee was formed. Members of the committee include Kelli McCaffrey, Andy Molt, Logan Davisson, Ross Davisson, Tony Claflin, and Jason Collins. Christensen and the HVAC project committee looked to industry professionals from Millig Design Build to provide technical expertise, complete conceptual design, and develop a project budget. Through a competitive procurement process, the school district has secured Millig Design Build to design and eventually implement the proposed projects including a new Air-Source VRF (Variable Refrigerant Flow) system and improvements to the facility's ventilation system which will address the lack of proper space temperature, primarily cooling, and improve indoor air quality for students and staff. The company is currently in the intense scoping phase of the final design and barring supply chain issues the project will get underway this coming spring and summer of 2023. The school board and district are excited about the improvements this will bring to the classroom environments and the potential savings to the district and its taxpayers.
