Is Your Class Reading Strong?
If not, here are some tips to help you get your 5th period class reading like Olympians. Try buddy reading. Pair up a tolerant strong reader with a weaker reader and have them read to each other. Gather those at risk readers and read to them. Mrs. Hinds has a number of titles with multiple copies perfect for small reading groups. Nominate a student to Mrs. Hinds to join a DEAR Time book club. Make a points chart and display it in your room. Set a class goal for total participation or 100% of students reaching a certain points goal. Create a competition among smaller groups in your class and reward the winning group with BYOD music time. Have you had an idea that really works for DEAR time in your class? Share it! Let Mrs. Hinds know and she will spread the word.
