Fulton Focus
For the parents and patrons of the Fulton School District
November 18, 2016
A message from the Superintendent
Dear Parent and Patrons.
Perhaps you are aware from the local press and building information that the District has and is recognizing students for their academic performance. November 9th, last years’ third grade through eighth grade students achieving Advanced in the areas of English Language Arts, Math and Science were awarded medals. Two hundred fifty five students received 400 medals, quite an achievement. In addition 100 high school students are being recognized at FHS.
We are pleased to announce that Fulton Public Schools continues to be an accredited institution pursuant to the standards of the Missouri School Improvement Program. FPS received 121.5 out of 140 possible points (86.8%) in the calculation for the Annual Performance Rate, APR. The APR report presented to the Fulton Board of Education is located on the FPS web site at http://www.fulton58.org/vimages/shared/vnews/stories/5501e3e567cc8/2016%20Annual%20Performance%20Report.pdf.
Below are the take-aways from the data:
***Challenges facing the elementary and middle school levels are in Science. There is an opportunity for improvement for ALL students.
***Fulton High School has improved significantly in overall APR percentage for the last three years. In 2014, the total percent of points earned was 80.4%; 2015 the total percent was 90.4%; and in 2016 it is 92.9%.
***The challenge for Fulton High School is in Social Studies where there is an opportunity to improve at all levels. Math and Social Studies are in need of improvement for the subgroup categories.
***Attendance continues to be a challenge at the secondary level. However, the graduation rate has improved over the last three years jumping from 81% in 2014 to 90.9% in 2016.
Measures are already being put into place to improve in the challenging areas. Vertical curriculum teams met to go over the data. They identified areas that were below an acceptable level and created an action plan on how to address those areas. Gaps in the curriculum, strategies for improvement, resources needed, and timelines have been identified.
The following chart reflects comparative data with North Central Missouri Conference Schools and area Schools.
Questions may be directed to the Central Office staff or any building administrator.
Thank you for sending great kids to work with!
Sincerely,
Jacque A. Cowherd, Ed.D.
