Cyberbullying Webinars
Parents, Monroe High School is offering a 2-part webinar series on Cyberbullying and how parents and families can support their teen student(s) in navigating the prominent social media world they currently live in. Guest presenter, Craig Robertson, from the Monroe Police Department and parents of three MHS alumni, will be presenting on both December 1st & 8th, starting at 7pm both nights.
Each night will have a 40-minute presentation and then 20 minutes set aside for a live Q & A. MHS Administration will also speak to how this fits into school and what opportunities are before us. We hope you will join us for a very informative event. The links for the webinars are below.
NEW PROCEDURE
New Opt-OUT Procedure for Student Use of Online Resources
This year, we have made a change in our procedure for our students’ use of technology, Internet, and online digital resources. In prior years, all parents have been asked to sign an Online Digital Resources Student Permission form to allow their student to use our approved online resources while at school. This has become a tedious process for both parents and staff, and we feel by changing the procedure to an opt-OUT, we can make this process easier for all.
Starting this school year, the new procedure requires parents to sign a form only if they would like to opt their student OUT of having access to the Internet, Google Suite for Education, online curriculum services, and other online applications and services that have been selected for use by the District, the child’s school, or the child’s teacher.
If a parent/guardian wishes to deny their student access to the above referenced resources, they will need to fill out the Opt-Out form located on the district website. Because of the essential nature of digital resources in the classroom, if a parent wishes to opt out their student, they will also need to schedule an appointment with the building administrator of their child’s school to discuss the request.
If opt-out documentation is not on file, it will be assumed that permission has been granted for access to the Internet, Google Suite for Education, online curriculum services, and other online applications and services that have been selected for use by the District, your child’s school, or your child’s teacher. Please refer to our website for a list of district approved online resources.
We hope this new procedure will be easier for our families each school year. If you have any questions, please contact DeAnn Hermes via email (hermesd@monroe.wednet.edu).
Art Club
This club is for students who love art and want to share/discuss art with others. It is just like a book club for art. Interested students please contact Mrs. Bruton at brutons@monroe.wednet.edu. Space is limited for 25 students.
ATTENDANCE RIGHT NOW
When should a student be marked absent from remote learning?
An absence from remote learning is when a student is not participating in planned instructional activities on a scheduled remote learning day. Student presence or participation may be asynchronous or synchronous.
Non Absent Example: If a student is not able to make the Zoom classes for that morning, but they are able to complete the assignments for that day; then they are NOT considered absent for the day. The student will need to contact their teachers to report their activity for the day and the completion of the daily assignment.
Absent Example: If a student is too ill to participate or complete any instructional activity for the day then they are marked as absent.
How is an absence excused?
The parent or guardian may excuse an attendance by calling the attendance hotline 360-804-4301 or in Family Access within 72 hours of the absence.
