This week in Literacy!
This week students will be continuing with Theme 8- Predicting Nature's Hazards. The comprehension strategy for this week is Determine Importance. Students will determine which information is the most important in the text versus which information is interesting. This week, ask your child to explain what Determine Importance means to them. When reading a Non-Fiction book with your child this week, some questions you could ask are:
- What is the Main Idea of the story, or the chapter?
- What was the most important idea in your reading?
- How do you decide what information is important versus what information is interesting?
- What is the least important piece of information in the reading?
We will also review Fix-It Strategies. For grammar, students will review word endings -ed, -ing, and-s.These endings are added to words to change their meaning. The vocabulary for this week includes, accurate, advantage, aid, evaluate, forecast.
Please make sure your child is reading each night, listening to the stories, and taking the quizzes. Reading for 20 minutes each night is one of the best ways for your child to become a better reader. Third Grade is tracking the number of books read in order for the class to earn incentives, such as a popcorn party! Thank you for your help with this!
