URGENT - Cafeteria Monitors Needed Immediately!
Note from the Principal
Welcome Back!!! I hope everyone had a restful, fun, and relaxing Holiday Break. There is an old saying – “In like a lion, out like a lamb.” This line is usually applied to the month of March since, in other parts of the country, the month of March usually starts with cold, unpleasant weather, but ends mild and pleasant. However, I am borrowing the beginning of that saying for the way we are starting 2017 here at Boone. We are definitely starting the month of January charging “in like a lion”!!!
January is a very important month for us at Boone. This is the month that we do most of our middle of the year assessments of how our students are progressing in their learning. All students in every grade will be undergoing some type of academic assessment this month. This data is crucial to us in helping determine where your child’s strengths are and to identify any possible areas that we may need to provide additional instruction. For our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders, they will be taking benchmark tests that are very similar to the STAAR tests they will be taking later this spring. Pre-K students will be taking their middle of the year skills assessments and Kinder, 1st, and 2nd graders will also be taking math and reading assessments.
It is very important that your children be at school every day, but this is magnified even more so this month. More information on the specific testing dates for each class will be provided by your classroom teacher. If you have any questions about when to schedule a doctor’s appointment, etc., for your child, please communicate directly with your child’s teacher and please try to avoid these dates, if possible.
This is going to be a great Spring Semester!! I am excited about the great things we have in store for the children and the wonderful experiences your child with have with us!!!

Boone’s Career Days are Coming Soon! - January 26-27 - Speakers Needed
We are hosting our third annual Career Days on Thursday, January 26 and Friday, January 27 at Boone Elementary School. One of our objectives at Boone, in addition to the district’s goal for college and career readiness, is to promote the importance of career planning. In order for our students to learn more about careers, we are inviting you to speak with our 3rd-5th graders about your career. If you are interested in presenting to a class or classes on either of these dates please email or Ms. Lozo. Nicole.lozo@austinisd.org 512-841-5376.
In addition to Career Days, PK-5 learn about jobs/careers, college, and individual interests in their classroom guidance lessons with the counselor.
