Ridgeview STEM Junior High
September 8, 2023
Principal's Message:
Hello Ridgeview Family,
Reminder to everyone - the PHSC versus PHSN game is a TICKET-ONLY event!
at PANTHERS Stadium - Game starts at 7pm - Gates open at 6pm!
It's Big Game Time! The Panthers vs. The Tigers!
Updated Football Game Attendee Expectations
We are excited that both of our high schools are hosting home games this Friday. Please note that K-8 administrators will not be required to work home games UNLESS the game is what we categorize as a "High Profile" game, for example, Pickerington Central versus Pickerington North. High-profile games will require an all-hands-on-deck approach from all grade levels. I will work with the ADs to identify games that need extra support; once identified, we will share the information with you.
PLSD families, please note the updated football game expectations for students and adults. An adult must accompany all K-8 students to enter the game; once inside the game, the K-8 students must be supervised by the accompanying adult.
Junior high football players wearing their football jerseys and cheerleaders wearing their cheer shirts will be admitted without adult accompaniment; all other K-8 students must be accompanied and supervised by an adult to enter the game.
Any action that could cause mental or physical harm is deemed inappropriate behavior and may be subject to immediate exclusion from the game and all-season games. Let's continue to work together to support a safe environment for all attendees.

Detentions:
We wanted to clear up some confusion about how detentions are assigned/served. Students may be assigned a lunch detention and/or an after school detention from staff. Lunch detentions are served at least a day or two after it's been assigned. Students are expected to get their lunch first and then go to the ISS room for the lunch period. After school detentions are usually served on a Tuesday or Thursday of each week but not the same day it's been assigned. The following Detention Form will be sent home to families making them aware of the discipline. The staff member who assigned the detention will also follow up with a notification (phone, email, or talking points) to families. For after school detentions, the students must do the following:
-Report to the main office to serve the detention no later than 2:15 pm.
-Have something to work on during the time.
-Discuss with their parents/guardians as to when they will serve the detention and arrange for a ride to pick them up.
After School Detention times are:
- 1st Time Assigned: 30 minutes from 2:15-2:45 pm.
- 2nd Time Assigned: 1 hour from 2::15-3:15 pm.
- 3rd Time Assigned: 2 hour QST from 2:15-4:15 pm.
If families still have questions about the detention process, they may reach out to our Dean of Students, Mrs. Dillard through the main office: 614-548-1700.

TALKING POINTS
Ridgeview will be consistently using Talking Points to communicate with families about things going on in class and to send reminders. Talking Points runs concurrent with Infinite Campus, therefore, whoever is listed as priority 1 in Infinite Campus receives the Talking Points communication. Also, some families have selected to receive the communication via the Talking Points App instead of as a text message. You may want to login to Talking Points (https://app.talkingpts.org/login) to see your preferences. If you would like more than 1 parent to receive the Talking Points communications, please email Lisa_Holley@plsd.us, who can add contacts to Talking Points.

2023-2024 FREE AND REDUCED PRICED MEALS PROGRAM
Pickerington Schools Announces 2023-2024 Program Year Policy on Free and Reduced Priced Meals
Pickerington Local School District today announced its 2023-2024 program year policy free and reduced priced meals for students unable to pay the full price of meals served under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast. Each school office and the central office has a copy of the policy, which may be reviewed by any interested party.
The Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines will be used to determine eligibility. Children from families whose annual income is at or below the federal guidelines are eligible for free and reduced-price meals or free milk if the school participates in the Special Milk Program.
To apply for free and reduced-price benefits, households should complete an application. Applications can be found on the district website. Additional copies are available at the principal’s office in each school. A complete application is required. Households which currently receive Special Nutrition Assistance Program Benefits (SNAP, formally known as food stamps) or Ohio Works First (OWF) funds for a child must provide the child’s name, the SNAP or OWF case number and signature of an adult household member on the application. Households that do not receive SNAP or OWF funds must provide the names of all household members, the last four digits of the Social Security Number of the adult signing the application or state “none” if the adult does not have a Social Security Number, the amount and source of income received by each household member (state the monthly income) and the signature of an adult household member. If any of this information is missing, the school cannot process the application.
FREE HEALTH CARE: Families with children eligible for school meals may be eligible for free health care coverage through Medicaid and/or Ohio’s Healthy Start & Healthy Families programs. These programs include coverage for doctor visits, immunizations, physicals, prescriptions, dental, vision, mental health, substance abuse and more. Please call 1-800-324-8680 for more information or to request an application. Information can also be found on the web at http://jfs.ohio.gov/ohp/consumers/familychild.stm. Anyone who has an Ohio Medicaid card is already receiving these services.
The information provided on the application is confidential and will only be used for the purpose to determine eligibility and may be verified at any time during the school year by school or other program officials. To discourage the possibility of misrepresentation, the application forms contain a statement above the space for signature certifying that all information furnished is true and correct. Applications are being made in connection with the receipt of federal funds. Schools or other officials may check the information on the application at any time during the school year. Deliberate misrepresentation of information may subject the applicant to prosecution under applicable state and federal laws.
Households will be notified of the approval or denial of benefits.
Foster children are categorically eligible for free meal benefits regardless of the household’s income. If a family has foster children living with them and wishes to apply for such meals or milk for them, contact the school for more information.

A NOTE FROM THE NURSE
In the event your child needs to take prescription medication while at school, please be sure to have the Request for administration of prescription medication by school personnel (pdf) form or completed by the child’s physician and parents. Forms are available in the school office and on the website.
Nonprescription medication such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen, and cough drops may be administered to students if the parent/guardian sends in the medication (in original container) along with written permission for the medication to be given. Dosages cannot exceed the manufacturer’s recommendations for age and weight. (i.e., We cannot administer medication to children under 12 if the label says: “Do not administer to children under 12, except under the direction of a physician.” We need to have a note from the doctor in order to give a dose of medication that is different than the dose stated on the bottle.) HELP Make Our Schools Safer
The Ohio Department of Education and the Ohio Department of Public Safety have launched the SaferOH tip line that will accept both calls and texts 24 hours a day.
This tip line allows students and adults to anonymously share information with school officials and law enforcement about threats to student safety—whether that involves a threatened mass incident or harm to a single student.
Every tip can remain anonymous. School safety analysts may ask for additional information, but the caller can remain secret or leave his or her contact information for later follow-up.
Calls or texts to 844-SaferOH (844-723-3764) are answered by analysts in the Ohio Homeland Security’s Threat Assessment and Prevention (TAP) Unit. When action is needed, the TAP Unit immediately forwards information to Pickerington Schools, local law enforcement agencies, and others, if necessary.
