3rd - 5th Grade Wonder Field Trip This Friday:
Our Wonder field trip is this Friday! All money and permission slips were due today. Please read the information below carefully. If you have not completed the permission slip, please do so by Tuesday.
Over the last few months, your child has been reading the book Wonder with their class. The novel has been used to support reading and writing instruction in a variety of ways. Students have analyzed the characters, made connections between themselves and the characters or the events in the story, written reflections about the events in the story, studied precepts that most motivate and impact them, and more. The novel has also been used to teach the 7 Habits of Happy Kids during Habit Huddle. Some classrooms even started a kindness campaign to fill emotional bank accounts after reading the book! It has truly been a wonderful experience for our leaders to read this book as a class!
The book has been made into a movie which releases this month. We are excited to share that on Friday, November 17, 2017 students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades will have the opportunity to go on a field trip to watch the movie Wonder. The movie is rated PG. The standard approved rating for elementary schools is G. In order for students to attend this field trip, parents must complete the standard field trip permission slip and the permission form to see a movie rated PG. If you do not want your child to attend the field trip we will have alternate activities planned for them at school. You can view movie trailers by following this link, http://www.wonder.movie/ .
We are excited about this opportunity!

Speeding to Read Update:
Our campus Wildly Important Goal is that all students will meet or exceed end of year expectations in reading. In order to reach this goal, Seven Hills Leaders need to be reading every day! Speeding to Read is a fun way to help students get excited about reading and help students reach their goals. We are a week into turn 2. Please make sure your child is reading at home and logging their books. Reading logs should be in STAR folders. If you need a new log, please contact your child's teacher.
- For Turns 2, 3 and 4, the minimum goal is 25 books per turn for Kindergarten–2nd-grade students and six (6) chapter books for 3rd–5th-grade students.
We encourage students to set high goals and read over the minimum number of books each turn. We had many students read over the minimum and we’d like even more this time! The Thanksgiving break is a GREAT time to log several books for turn 2!
Note: Each turn starts over with the count of books. The books read in turn 1 do not count in turn 2.

Safety Procedures in Northwest ISD
The safety of our students and staff is of utmost importance in Northwest ISD. As a campus, we will practice various safety drills so that we are prepared for any possible scenario that could take place at your child’s campus. One of the emergency procedures that is used from time-to-time is the Shelter-in-Place. During this procedure, students are safe at all times, remain in the classroom and learning continues to take place as normal. The campus cannot legally explain why a Shelter-in-Place procedure is used. This is not to alarm you, but it is for legal confidentiality reasons, respect and the protection of our students or staff members. We do want to stress the fact that Shelter-in-Place is very different from a Lock-Down procedure. During a lock-down, all instruction is stopped.
If students are ever in any kind of danger, we will notify families immediately via email, phone call and website. If you ever have any questions about our safety drills and emergency procedures, please do not hesitate to contact our campus. Your children’s safety remains our top priority.
