- Conflict: Once Piotr sees what the Nazis are doing to innocent people, he wants to get away from them. After his new family finds out his grandmother was Jewish he leaves Germany with his love Anna and her mother, to go to the safe country of Sweden.
- Summary: After Piotr is brought to a new home, he sees prejudice, feels restricted freedom, and sees innocent people tortured and killed. The problem is that he wants to take a stand, which could put him in grave danger.
- Question: Will Piotr, Anna, and her mother escape safely to Sweden? Or will they be caught by the Nazis?
