Up Coming Fall Festivities at WCE
Fall is here, which means there are Autumn celebrations. The WCE PTA will be sponsoring all classrooms with a “Craft in a Bag” on Friday, October 29th. Each student will get a bag with a fall craft! As a reminder, our district does have a food and allergy policy and we will not be able to distribute any candy/food at the parties. Classroom teachers will incorporate their “Craft in a Bag” into their daily schedule, along with other festive learning activities! Thank you to our generous PTA for providing our crafts!
We will also host a week long Spirit Week! Our Spirit Week will begin on Monday October 25th. This will run in conjunction with a coin war fundraiser to help raise money to increase the technology opportunities we have to offer our students! The top three classrooms that raise the most percentage per student funds will earn a 3-D printed trophy that their class gets to help design! This year our Technology team has goals to increase awareness with 3-D printing as well as with virtual reality adventures!
Monday, October 25th- Pennies & Pajama’s
Tuesday, October 26th- Nickels & Neckties
Wednesday, October 27th- Dimes & Digits

Friday, October 29th- Costume or Fall Themed Clothing day! Turn in any left over coins or dollars to help your class earn the most percentage per student funds to support technology at WCE!
Weather permitting, all district elementary schools will have a Fall Festive Parade in the morning. Our parade will take place at 8:30 AM on the Winston Campus Track. Parents/guardians are welcome to view the parade from the inside/middle of the track. Afternoon ECDEC will parade immediately following arrival. If there is inclement weather, unfortunately we will not be able to hold our parade and we will send out a notification prior to 8:00 AM.
In regards to costumes, students will need to wear their costumes to school. Accessories are not encouraged as students will be wearing their costumes all day. Due to bathroom space constraints, students will not be able to change into or out of costumes at school; which is why we are having parades in the morning and discouraging accessories and face make-up. As previously communicated through our District guidelines, students cannot have costumes that have weapons, blood, violence or items that may frighten younger children. Students will be required to wear their health face coverings/masks during the day. Costume masks are not permitted and face make up is not encouraged.
We are aware that some families do not celebrate Halloween or Fall Festivities. If you wish for your child to not participate in the parade or festivities, please reach out to your child’s classroom teacher. Thank you for your continued support! We are so happy to celebrate fall festivities with our students who deserve some extra fun!
Ms. Endacott's Class - Mind Craft PBIS Celebration!
At Winston Campus Elementary School, we are always working on creating a predictable, consistent, positive and safe climate for our students and staff. We strive to help students grow academically and emotionally.
We strongly believe that our school should be a warm and welcoming place. We also believe that there is no place for any type of disrespectful behavior at school. Therefore, our goal is to eliminate disrespectful behavior from our building by teaching our students D15's Expect Respect Bully Prevention Curriculum.
Bullying” is repeated aggression, harassment, threats or intimidation when one person has greater status or power than another.“ All bullying behavior is disrespectful, not all disrespectful behavior is bullying.
All Winston Campus Elementary classes have learned our 5 Expect Respect Routines.
School-wide behavioral expectation - Be Respectful
Stop routine when faced with disrespectful behavior
Bystander stop routine when observing disrespectful behavior
Stopping routine if someone tells you to “stop”.
A recruit help routine to recruit adult help if you feel unsafe.
At Winston Campus Elementary, We are T.R.R.F.C.C! (Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, Citizenship). Our goal is to follow the District 15 Vision, Mission, and Values for Social Emotional Learning. Our PBIS theme for the year is to Level Up! After we meet certain learning objectives and goals, we will celebrate with our students as we Level Up in our game theme!
For our first PBIS celebration, students got to build and explore the Minecraft landscape they created! Some class chose to recreate a Minecraft landscape out of boxes while others chose to celebrate by exploring Minecraft at Code.org. Students earned this opportunity after they practiced the 5 routines of Expect Respect, and reviewed how to be a good citizen!

CCSD15 Transportation Update
October 15, 2021
Dear Parents and Guardians:
At our Board of Education meeting this past Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2021, Mr. Bramley and I gave an update on our ongoing transportation/driver shortage issue. Please click here to review the report or click here to view the live presentation.
As we shared in a letter on August 29, 2021, there is a nationwide bus driver shortage. As a result of this fact, we continue to actively recruit and train drivers. From start to finish - this process takes a minimum of six weeks.
We are using all other district employees not employed as bus drivers that have the correct licensure to drive a bus to drive a bus route at the beginning and end of their day to help cover unassigned routes in addition to their daily duties. We have drivers running double routes to some schools which can cause some routes to run late. In addition, there has been extensive road construction on Hicks, Dundee, and Rand Road which causes traffic congestion and delays and negatively impacts our route times.
We understand and share your frustration over late bus routes. We will improve our communication with families to alert them when a bus is running late. We want nothing more than to have a fully staffed transportation department and to have all of our routes running on time. We will work with schools to provide supervision for students who may arrive at school early due to a double route run or who may have to stay longer at the end of the day while they wait for a bus to drive them home.
If we are unable to hire more drivers in the near future, the district is looking at the option of becoming a three-tier start/end time school system vs. a two-tier system so we can run our routes with the drivers we currently have in place. We will exhaust all other options before we consider changing school start and end times, but if we can not hire additional drivers, we may not have another option to remedy this situation.
I apologize for the delays in our bus routes. We are doing the best we can with the resources we have at the moment. Thank you again for your patience.
Sincerely,
Dr. Claire Kowalczyk and Mr. Tom Bramley
