The History

The Brighton chain pier was proposed in 1806. It was 1134 ft long and 13 ft wide. It opened on November 25th 1823 and it closed in 1846. It was also in France.

WHY IT FAILED

The Brighton chain pier failed because it had a lot of damage done to it by storms.It didn't have enough support underneath . The story was that it was so weak from all the damage done to it before that during the harsh winter storm on December 4th 1896 it collapsed violently.

- It cost 30,000 pounds to make (619,90.2 Canadian dollars)

-it had 5 cast iron towers supporting the decks which were 78 meters apart
