Shepherd Hill Regional High School
Newsletter - April 2022
March Madness is upon us in more ways than one. April brings with it signs of spring and being outside more. With that will be a feeling of momentum in the final months of the school year. We know that momentum plays an important role in a successful school year - whether in basketball tournaments (March Madness) or in schools how we handle change and adversity is important. Developing resilience matters in all of our lives and the lessons we have learned this past couple of years will be with us for many years to come.
As we move into April with our Spring sports being visible on our Hill campus - it gives us hope that soon the sunshine will be the norm and the temperatures will certainly be rising. With grades closing for the third marking term on Friday April 1st - the 2021-2022 school year will be three-quarters complete. Our class of 2022 will be counting down the days and the deadlines around finishing their high school career strong, and AP Exams & MCAS testing will be in full swing for our 10th and 11th grade students come the beginning of May.
This time of the school year can also be very hectic. All of us (students, teachers, and parents) need to navigate during this period of time trying to overcome deadlines and hurdles in an attempt to finish our year strong. Sometimes these hurdles and stuck moments can create crossroads for us to make a decision which sometimes can be based on our fear of failing or not meeting our own or other's expectations. During these times it’s important to pause and take a deep breath and simply just take a step forward. These are great contributors to continuing in developing a resilient mindset.
Let’s continue to be guides for our students on the Hill in gaining their individual and collective resiliency on many levels in order for them to OWN their future and let them know the power they possess can create change small and large.
Be well

Students Give Back
Last year, due to declining interest and Covid, Students Give Back decided to donate their prom dresses to The Prom Closet in Southbridge and disbanded, so there is no longer a Prom Dress Swap here at The Hill.
If you have a student that is expressing a desire to attend prom but is concerned about the inability to pay for a dress, please encourage them to check out The Prom Closet. They will need to make an appointment, but the ladies who run this organization are fabulous and will do their utmost to make sure that that student has a dress.
Their information can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/promdressesforfree
Prom ~ An Enchanted Evening
The Prom will be held on May 21st at the DCU Center from 6-10 pm. Tickets will be on sale April 4-15th at a cost of $75/person. In order for any student from Shepherd Hill to attend they must be up to date financially with the office, athletics, and their class.
Also, guests will be permitted, please complete the Dance Guest form available in the office. This form needs to be completed before a ticket can be purchased for the guest.
Student Government Day 2022
On Friday April 1, 2022, two Shepherd Hill students attended Student Government day. While this year’s proceedings were offered virtually, both Rami Rachid and Caroline Doering participated in the day’s activities by following what an average day for a member of Massachusetts government is like. Both were able to offer and hear testimony in relation to two separate bills that have been proposed in Massachusetts. Bill H.564 is a proposed law that seeks to nutritionally improve school lunches. Bill S.448, which is a proposed law to lower the voting age from 18 to 16 years of age.
Caroline assumed the role of a state representative and offered her opinion about student lunches as well as the potential lowering of the voting age to include 16 & 17 year old individuals.
Rami was assigned a role in the Supreme Judicial Court, where he was given a virtual tour of the John Adams Courthouse by Clerk Francis V. Kenneally, Esq. Through a Q & A session with the clerk and his support staff, Rami was able to learn about how the court functions as well as how each staff member arrived at their position.
Wellness Week on The Hill
Shepherd Hill's School Adjustment Counselors recently put on a Wellness Week for our students! As you can see from the pictures, it was a great experience for students to learn new strategies to cope with feelings, engage in activities that promoted wellness, happiness, and school spirit. We also had the help of Shepherd Hill teachers and clubs, in order to make the week eventful! This was a district wide initiative to remind students that support is here, strategies help, and taking care of yourself is priority!!
GSA Helps Out With Wellness Week
GSA sold candy treat bags during Wellness Week. Thank you for the sweet treats!

Dudley Fire & Emergency Services
April Newsletter
Paul Konieczny
With April, we look forward to longer days, warmer weather and our annual spring-cleaning projects.
As we accumulate clutter, we create a fire hazard, the more clutter we have the more of a chance an accidental fire can occur. A clean and organized home is less likely to have an accidental fire, let us look at where we can begin our cleanup.
If you have a garage this area usually is cluttered with our winter stuff so let us look at what is in there and clean it up. Organize it and properly store all items that you have use for and if discard all other items that you do not use or of no use to you and your family. Gasoline cans should be stored off the floor and on a secure shelf make sure the gasoline is in an approved container.
Gas Grills come out of hibernation to begin our cookout season; we need to ensure these are ready for the season by cleaning any grease build up that remains from last season. The LP-gas tank should be visually inspected for damage including the regulator and hose to be sure they are not worn, damage and tight. Lap-gas is heavier than air so if a leak develops the gas will gas will fall to the low point usually the ground or basement if it can access through a basement window this is one reason why a gas grill is not permitted on a deck/balcony that is higher than the ground floor.
Sometimes an overlooked area of our cleaning is the clothes dryer, if we do not maintain the equipment it can fail. After each use clean, the filter screen to clear any lint from the machine this helps to prevent the dryer from overheating. Along with the screen, clean the vents on the outside, something dust and lint will accumulate in this area. Each year the dryer vent pipe must be inspected cleaned or replaced.
