Greetings Woodcrest families,
One week into the second trimester and your children are thriving. Our hallways and classrooms are filled with learners reading, writing, speaking, and having fun.
One of my highlights from the last week is of a first grader helping a kindergartner in the hallway one morning. The first grader noticed the kindergarten student’s mask had fallen off. This first grader got the attention of their little friend, pointed to the mask on the ground and said, “You need this!!!”
When the kindergartner had it securely on their face and said their ‘gracias,’ the first-grade student said “Si. Now, let’s go learn something!” They both walked into their respective classrooms. It was such a good example of how even our youngest students can take care of one another and the well-being of our community.
A few weeks ago, I shared we were starting the search for a new Coordinator of Student Services. After reviewing many applications and conducting multiple interviews, I am happy to announce that Dr. Rachel Lanquist has accepted the role of Coordinator of Student Services. Dr. Lanquist joined Woodcrest Spanish Immersion School during the 2020-2021 school year and has done great work as a Social-Emotional Behavior teacher and Behavior Specialist. I am thrilled to have her on our team at Woodcrest and excited for her to take this new role. Please join me in welcoming Rachel to her new position.
Please remember, next week is a short week. Next Wednesday, December 22 will be our last day of school before Winter Break begins Thursday, December 23. Spring Lake Park Schools will resume Monday, January 3.
Con gratitúd,
John Franke
