Digital technology in the classroom
Examples of digital technology in Bishop Auckland College
“An ETF funded OTLA Digital project”
We have held two digital technology sessions during lunchtime periods in March which included a Skype training session on Click-view from their regional development manager, as well as showcasing eight other digital technology methods.
Using Flip-grid in your Teaching, Learning and Assessment In April, Andrew Dixon presented at Ramside Hall on the progress of the Digital technology project which is led by Bishop Auckland College, with Darlington College, Darlington Borough Skills and South West Durham Training as project partenrs. The OTLA team were particularly interested in the feedback received by Kim Sheil from her external verifier on the fantastic use of Flip-grid within her teaching, learning and assessment. When the EV had spoken to Kim's learners they identified that they prefer to use Flip-grid rather than writing answers in workbooks and that they had answered questions in far more detail in this format. | Apple Educator CPD session for staff In March we had Graham Trick from Jigsaw Education into College, who is an Apple Educator, to deliver a familiarisation session on I-pads. Staff voluntarily took part in the session that covered various useful apps for the classroom and various useful settings that can help learners within their particular subject areas. | Empower staff to promote and use of digital technologies to meet the diverse needs of learners. During March we carried out a staff questionnaire as part of our digital project to ascertain how comfortable staff are when using digital technology within their practice. Teaching staff have also produced an individual reflection video using Flip-grid. These videos have been used to design individualised CPD depending upon the identified needs. |

Smart-board training as requested
From the staff questionnaires around digital technology it was evident that a large proportion of staff would like further training around the use of the interactive whiteboards. Learning Zone staff Luke and Dave have delivered sessions within the weekly Teaching and Learning slots.
