Springfield Employee Excellence Awards - Nominate your colleagues!
The Springfield Employee Excellence Awards are coming up!
Please take a moment to think about the everyday heroes you get to call colleagues and submit their information to be recognized at our annual Employee Excellence Event in April.
Nominations will be collected for the next three weeks, closing the Friday before Spring Break (March 20). So submit yours now while it’s top of mind. Join us on April 14, at Thurston High School to honor the nominees and celebrate as a WEareSPS team!
Grant funding reminder
The Springfield Education Foundation’s grant cycle will run from Feb. 24 to April 22 so that educators may have time to work on their 2020-2021 proposals during spring break.
Grant applications are now available online at the SEF website. Check out this page to learn more about the various grant types, as well as upcoming grant writing workshops and deadlines.
Coronavirus information for SPS staff
In light of recent notification from the Oregon Health Authority of presumed cases of the coronavirus, COVID-19, we wanted to share with you updated information on how to prevent the spread of the illness and the steps the district will follow to keep our school communities healthy.
Since the onset of the US spread of COVID-19, the district has been closely monitoring the situation and has updated our pandemic response plan to include responding to the new illness. Additionally, SPS will be taking extra steps to reduce the spread of germs in our buildings, through extra cleanings and increased handwashing.
There are no current plans to close any schools in our system. We have a district nurse assigned to maintain frequent contact with our health authority partners and will follow their informed guidance should any need arise.

SPS Applause + Humans of SPS
We want to celebrate the great things going on in our district, as well as the wonderful humans that make it all happen. Please send any information about fun, notable or great things happening across the district to be featured in SPS Applause.
In addition to SPS Applause, we recently launched a new social media project called Humans of SPS! The weekly Instagram posts aim to capture Springfield Public Schools staff and showcase some of the hard work, passion and heart that they bring to SPS buildings and our community every single day. We want to hear from you about who you think the unsung heroes of the district are. To nominate someone for Humans of SPS, send an email to the SPS Communications Department at pr@springfield.k12.or.us
Classified Appreciation Week!
This week, we set aside time to thank those members of our team who serve in a broad range of integral roles across our system -- our Classified colleagues.
While it’s abundantly clear how much value our teammates add to the work of supporting student success, we hope that this week, in particular, everyone will take time to express appreciation for the key support that every employee provides to our district.
Whether they serve in a building, a department, the central district office, or a school bus, our classified colleagues keep our work humming and we appreciate them.
How are you are celebrating our classified colleagues' commitment to SPS? We'd love to know! As the week rolls on we will be sharing these messages of thanks on our website and district social media accounts, so please share your celebrations with sps.communications@springfield.k12.or.us to have your team featured.
To all our Classified coworkers out there, WE APPRECIATE YOU!
