Buc's Bulletin

Our Weekly Class Newsletter October 12- October 15

A Note from Mrs. Buc

It was so nice to have a full week of school! I forgot what it felt like! It was busy, but full of fun! We learned about the Shema and V'ahavta prayers and made beautiful mezzuzot. We talked about how those prayers are rolled up inside the mezzuzah, why we have them around our homes, kosher vs non kosher scrolls and we looked at images of all kinds of mezzuzot (many had the Hebrew letter shin). I can't wait to hear where your child decides to hang theirs once they come home! They are just about done.

Shabbat Shalom!

Mrs. Buc

What Did We Learn This Week?

Language Arts

With our first full week of school in over a month behind us, we dove right into spelling; choosing between tch/ ch was our spelling rule this week. The trick is to listen for that short vowel to know that the t comes right after it. In grammar, we worked on proper nouns, more specifically, capitalizing first, middle and last names as well as initials. We read the book Julius and graphed both fantasy and real details from story. We are taking it slow in our handwriting books to make sure we are all forming our letters neatly and correctly. We had so much fun playing a main idea travel game! First, we brainstormed topics to write about and then wrote a main idea sentence about them. Then, we traveled around the room to add details to support the topic sentence. We discussed what details made sense and others that needed improvement. It was a great experience over all!! We got so much done!

Show us the money!!!! We spent the week counting coins and dollars. We played a money rotation game and practiced different ways we can make an amount, as well as how to write amounts with dollar signs and decimal points. We also watched fun movies on brainpop jr. to learn more about counting with dollars and cents. We are quick and accurate when it comes to money!

Dear 2nd grade parents,

Learning cursive Hebrew letters is interesting and enjoyable!

We covered four related letters this week: ו(VAV), י (YOD), נ (NUN), and ן (NOON SOFIT- final NUN).

We practiced the correct formation of these letters in writing and our proficiency in reading them.

Here are our verbs this week: נוֹתְנִים (NOTNEEM- giving), קוֹרְאִים (KOREEM- reading).

Looking for a fun Hebrew activity to do at home?

Shabbat shalom, שַׁבָּת שָׁלוֹם

Galia Sabbag

We had an amazing kick off to our new unit on Geology! We were so curious about our mystery package and the suspense that was built up all day to get us excited for our exploration in the "cave" to find rocks! We learned about the layers of the earth, that rocks are made of minerals, and learned about several different types of minerals! ROCK ON!!
