Message from the President

Irises are budding, tulip trees are blooming, and daffodils are rising from the ground -- looks like a beautiful spring is coming to my house soon! Watching all that appears to be dead suddenly come to life is a miraculous thing to see!!

As all this new life is happening, Theta members are working hard to make our Founders Day

meeting, March 18, a fun celebration. We will meet at beautiful Wrightsville Beach to celebrate our “Past, Present, and Future” with good food and fellowship. We have invited presidents and other members from the past to join us, and look forward to renewing friendships and catching up. We will keep the business meeting short, but have some good things to report. I do hope all of you have the date on your calendars and will be there to help make this meeting a great one!

Other things to remember are the upcoming Leadership Development Seminar, March 25 – 26, where Liz Day will represent us, and the NC DKG Convention, April 28 – 30. Right now, there are seven of us planning to attend the convention, and we welcome anyone else who would like to join us. We plan to car pool and enjoy one another’s company, as well as bring back good ideas we can use to make Theta even stronger. Please contact me if you would like to come along!

Looking forward to seeing all of you soon.

Educational Excellence Committee Update

You voted to support the Harrelson Center in downtown Wilmington as our spring

project. Christy Aley, Community Outreach Coordinator for the Center was our

November meeting speaker and provided us information about the “large

network of nonprofit organizations that work in close proximity and

communication in order to provide outstanding resources in our community.” For

additional information check out their website – www.harrelsoncenter.org. We

will pass the crayon for donations at our March meeting.

YOU made a difference in the lives of our community foster children and their

families! Your generous contributions of over $700.00 made it possible to provide

two cribs with mattresses, two highchairs, three huge diaper orders in size 4, size

5 and size 6. All these items were selected from their “high priority” list. In

addition, a large bag of wipes was also provided. The EEC thanks you for

supporting this important project!

News From the BT Support Team

Theta said “Happy Valentine’s Day” to our BT’s at Forest Hills Global Elementary School. We appreciate all they do for their students!

We used the money collected in the Big Red Crayon at the January meeting to fill the Valentine bags. The bags contained classroom items from the “Wish Lists” the teachers completed earlier in the year, tasty treats and encouraging notes from Theta members.

Explore the New DKG Website

The DKG website has undergone a comprehensive redesign. The result is a new, cleaner, easier-to-use design! Check it out at https://www.dkg.org. Members will continue to log in with the same ID and password used for the previous site.

NC DKG Immediate Past President Dr. Teresa Cowan was chair of the international Communications and Marketing Committee when the redesign was conceived and begun. She worked closely with Headquarters technology staff and others to bring the new site to fruition. Teresa said, “Our goal was to achieve a website that was user-focused and user-friendly (for members and nonmembers) while creating a site with a more modern feel. Thus far it has received positive feedback, and it continues to be tweaked as needed. Members are encouraged to offer their feedback and to provide suggestions or point out glitches as they discover them.”

After logging in, the green bar across the top allows for quick access to your MyDKG account by clicking on your name. Icons give easy access to DKG Facebook, the DKG Art Gallery, DKGSI blogs, and the DKG YouTube channel. Take a few minutes to log in to the member side and check out the new user-focused and user-friendly design. Be sure to update and share your profile in the secure directory while you are there!
