FMS News
August 19th, 2018
Dear FMS Families,
Welcome back to school! It was a great first week, and if our students were anything like our staff, everyone slept well this weekend!
Our staff will provide an EXPLO and grade level newsletter each week. The office will share a little each week to start and as needed, but will strive to share a monthly newsletter so you don't get too much information. Of course, our website and social media sites also are updated daily.
Have an amazing weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Monday!
Sincerely,
Beth Houf and Erica Hogan

Grading at FMS
Looking at the Standards
Why standards based grades? This helps us to hone in on the actual skill/objective that needs support or enrichment. Instead of knowing that your child has a B in math, you can see the specific skills that are not at mastery.
I will be sharing information as we go through the year, but the video below does a nice job giving a general explanation of SBG. It was made for teachers, but as a parent, I also feel like I get a nice overview. Our students also will begin tracking all grades in an electronic leadership/data binder. Grades will be updated in the computer every three weeks.
Students will also have an area that will be in their leadership binder on college and career readiness. Even though they have a few years before they graduate, we have revamped "behavior" skills to help them understand that these are the things that will help them be successful beyond FMS. These are such skills as organization, timeliness, tone of voice, etc.
If you have any questions at all, I am happy to answer them.
