Music Notes
Every year the students at McAuliffe prepare a performance for family and friends as a part of their music class. Students in Grades K, 1, and 2 prepare an informance. An informance is a bit less formal than a concert. It demonstrates their performance abilities while also sharing parts of the music curriculum. Informances are held in the music room. The schedule is as follows:
Monday, January 22nd Informances
11:10-11:35: Mrs. Erickson
11:35-12:05: Mrs. Schindler
1:10-1:35: Ms. Johnson
1:35-2:05: Mrs. Hanson
2:05-2:30: Mrs. Hunt
2:30-3:00: Ms. Bronk
11:10-11:35: Mrs. Fischer
11:35-12:05: Mrs. Whitelhill
1:10-1:35: Mrs. Schulte
1:35-2:05: Mrs. Jonely
2:05-2:30: Mrs. Kost
2:30-3:00: Ms. Barry
Third and Fourth graders as well as the McAuliffe Eagle Choir will perform a formal concert in the McAuliffe gym. To accommodate all families and friends, we will perform twice. The date and times are as follows:
Friday, February 2: Grade 3 & 4 Concert
9:30 a.m.
2:00 p.m.
WHAT TIME DOES SCHOOL START?
School begins at 8:50 am. Please make sure your child(ren) arrive at school on time. Learning takes place in a carefully arranged environment that begins the minute your child arrives at school. When your child is late, he/she may not feel the connectedness with the class or have the opportunity to absorb learning in the best setting. To maximize instruction time and academic achievement for your child, as well as minimize disruption for the whole class, please avoid tardiness.
Please keep in mind that students are not allowed in the building until the 8:30am bell rings. If you need to drop off your child earlier you may enroll them in Kids Campus.
DON'T WAIT UNTIL WINTER...PREPARE FOR A "SNOW DAY”
It is important that you have accurate phone numbers on file for your student with the school district. Although we are using a calling system to contact families in case of inclement weather, the district will still continue to post school delays or closings in the following ways:
Official school closing announcements will be made on Hastings KDWA Radio 1460, WCCO-Channel 4, KSTP-Channel 5, KMSP-Channel 9 and KARE-Channel 11 television and Hastings Public School Website.
Please visit our webpage for directions at: www.hastings.k12.mn.us
DRESS FOR THE WEATHER
When the temperatures are in the 40’s and 50’s, we do require students to wear a light jacket or sweatshirt outside. When winter arrives, winter clothing will be required. Please remember to send tennis shoes during the winter months for gym class.
BIRTHDAY PARTIES
Just a reminder that if your child is having a birthday party and would like to invite their friends from school, we are not able to give out names, phone numbers or addresses of the students. While we know it is exciting for children to have a birthday party and invite their school friends, we ask that you do not send invitations to school as it can cause hurt feelings for those students who did not get invited to the party.
TREATS AT SCHOOL
The district has adopted a wellness policy. We are still celebrating student birthdays; we are just not doing so with birthday treats. We ask that students not bring any treats in honor of their birthday.
KIDS CAMPUS EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSING
If the Hastings Public Schools are closed due to inclement weather conditions, the Kids Campus Program will also be closed.
If school is delayed two hours in opening, Kids Campus will be open at the regular time (6:30 am).
If school closes two hours early, then Kids Campus sites will close two hours early
(4:00 pm). Parents will be called and notified by Kids Campus staff to pick up their child.
Please pick up your child by 4:00 pm or authorize someone else to pick up your child by that time. Please listen to the radio and TV for school closing announcements.
FOOD & NUTRITION SERVICES NEWS
November Menu Highlights
We are loving this fall weather and looking forward to our big Thanksgiving Dinner on November 16th. Enjoy Roasted Turkey with Mashed Potatoes and other traditional sides.
We are trying out a new item that elementary students haven’t had at school for a few years – Sloppy Joes on a whole grain bun! We think our recipe is extra special because we make them EXTRA SLOPPY! Don’t forget some crisp fresh veggies and fruits for a complete meal.
Breakfast Bites
Breakfast is as easy as 1-2-3! This year to make choosing a breakfast easier, our food options are assigned a point value. Students should choose foods that total AT LEAST 3 points to have a complete breakfast. Also remind your little breakfast-eaters that a healthy complete breakfast requires a fruit or 100% fruit juice! We also have some changes coming to the breakfast menu so stay tuned!
Substitutes Needed!
Looking for a fun opportunity to make some extra money while your kids are in school? Food & Nutrition Services is in need of substitutes to work in the school kitchens. Hours are flexible! Click on the link below to apply, or contact Kim Harren, Director of Food & Nutrition Services at 651-480-7126.
