Tips to stay safe during Mother Nature's Fury
The weatherman may not always be right but you can be prepared. Use the tips below to ensure your safety during severe weather. Know how to respond during lightning, thunderstorms, blizzards, tornadoes, and hurricanes.
Hurricane Preparedness
Have an evacuation plan in place for a hurricane. If you cannot evacuate, find a room with no windows; preferably a basement.
Lightning
Seek shelter, stay away from trees and downed power lines. Don't swim do any activities in or near water. Unplug electronics.
Tornado
Seek shelter. Find the room closest to the middle of the house. Stay away from windows and hide under a mattress.
Thunder Storm
Prepare for strong winds. Seek shelter. Stay away from windows. Secure outside items if possible.
Blizzard
Stay indoors. Prepare for back up heat either with a fireplace or extra blankets and clothing. Don't drive unless necessary. Pack a flash light, food, blankets, a radio and matches in your vehicle if travel is required.

Occasionally practice a storm drill. Plan a safe location or meeting place with shelter. Pack food, water, a flash light, blankets, a radio and matches in your vehicle. Keep your gas tank full.
