A Note from Mrs. Russo
After School Art Enrichment:
Each year, administrators reflect upon their programs, curriculum, and extracurricular offerings. In May 2016, Lafayette School proudly presented its first Visual Art Show, showcasing the students in the after-school art enrichment program who had created independent projects in a variety of artistic genres not possible in our curricular art program. Mrs. Kraemer, Dr. Klemp, and I have discussed the possibility of expanding the art enrichment program to the fall semester. After much thought and consideration, we have decided to offer this program in both the Fall and the Spring.
In place of the Head Show, Mrs. Kraemer will host two Art Shows - one in January and one in May. This was not an easy decision as The Head Show has had a long tradition in Chatham. However, we believe that the expansion of the After School Art Enrichment Program will provide our students with more choices in the visual arts, as well as an interactive way to showcase their work to their parents. Thank you for your continued support of the Visual Art program at Lafayette School.
Read A Thon:
In our continued efforts to foster a love of reading, the PTO has organized a good old-fashioned read a thon with an online component, of course. You should have received an email on Tuesday kicking off the program. Your child was also provided with information on how to log into the program and get started. If you are in need of information, please contact Jen Bankert at jennifermtopper@hotmail.com.One School, One Book - The End
The goal was to finish the book this week, however the ultimate goal was to enjoy a good book with your family and peers. If you are still reading, enjoy the very exciting end of Masterpiece. We will continue to hold the raffle for Masterpiece sketches throughout this week. I am excited about how many students enjoyed this part of the program. The students will also engage in some conversations throughout next week to wrap up the book. Thank to the PTO for supporting this school wide book program. Please let me know if you have any feedback to share.
There are two more books in the Masterpiece Series if your child enjoyed the book. James to the Rescue: The Masterpiece Adventures Book Two and The Miniature World of Marvin & James (The Masterpiece Adventures)
A Message from Mrs. Kelly - School Nurse
As a reminder to all parents and guardians….
- IF you have a student who will be ENTERING 6th grade in September of 2017 he/she will need two immunizations - the Tdap and Meningitis vaccines. Please be sure to submit proof of these immunizations to Sally Kelly, School nurse at LAF.
- The 5th grade boys and girls will have SCOLIOSIS SCREENINGS this Spring, while the 4th grade boys and girls will have VISION SCREENINGS. More information to follow as the time gets closer.
As always, please feel free to reach out to me in the Health Office with any questions or concerns!
