We focused on our own personal reactions to these persuasive texts and what the author's purpose was. We have established language for talking about persuasive texts and arguments like:
-claim
-argument
-reasons
-evidence
-unsubstantiated claim
-credible
-biased
-pathos
-logos
Our goals from this unit are:
- to make decisions in our lives based on research
- to become confident and critical readers of complicated nonfiction
As we analyze and write responses we consider:
- What is the claim being made?
- What reasons are give to support the claim?
- What's the evidence to support those reasons?
To support the work we are doing at school please be certain to continue to encourage reading at home. I loved hearing that so many of you tried our timer strategy at home or provided a quiet space for your kiddo to read. They were so impressed by how much reading they can do in a day with at least 30 minutes at school and 15-30 minutes at home. Building stamina is essential to our readers being able to tackle more complex texts. Let's be certain to keep this up! Thank you so much for your partnership!
