PK3.3 - Wishes and Celebrations
30th May - 3rd June 2016
Make- a-wish
On Wednesday we were very privileged to have a visit from Yossimar and his family.
Yosimar is 3 years old and is a patient in the Children's Hospital where he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. He lives in Cabuyita with his mom Marisol Pimentel and 2 sisters Yulianis (6) and Abdul (1). It is wish to have a party and receive many gifts, maybe even a car he can drive.
About Yossimar:
Orange is his favorite color and he likes to eat tortillas with kétchup, sausages and rice, He loves birthday treats and strawberry ice cream! For him, the best thing to happen would be to celebrate his birthday. He likes Spiderman, cars, trucks and to play supermarket with his sisters, cousins and uncle. Yossimar likes all animals but his favorite is Turtles. His favorite superhero is Superman and he wants to be a builder when he grows up.
Thanks to PK Parents generosity, we were able to fulfill Yossimar's wish to have a birthday party with games, a piñata and gifts, including his special wish for a motorized car. You generosity also allowed us to own to purchase a bed and bedding for the children.
THANK YOU!! WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT ALL YOUR GENEROSITY AND SUPPORT!!

How many letters are in my name?
During our morning meetings this week we have been reinforcing number recognition, counting and identifying letters. Each child had a bag of their name letters and we made a HUGE poster with their names; identifying their letters and counting how many in each of their names. The longest name was Francisco with 9!
In small groups this week we have been:
- writing rainbow names. PK3.3 REALLY enjoy writing their names on everything! This week they have been practicing tracing letter forms and identifying straight and curved lines as they traced their names in many colors to make a rainbow.
- shape drawing with paint mats. A popular activity this week, we gave the children a set of shape cards and encouraged them to identify and recreate the shapes on the "magic" paint mats. They especially enjoyed squishing their drawings away to start again. Easy to recreate at home with a strong zip-loc bag, q-tips, colorful paint and their imagination.
- shape sorting. With a big box of shapes to sort from, the children identified and sorted between circles, squares, rectangles and triangles. We used 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes to challenge them and review understanding of terms such as sphere, cube and pyramid.
- identifying letters in our super foamy center! This was such a fun (and clean) activity as the children searched for upper and lower case letters to match on their letter mats. Adding a sensory experience, such as shaving foam, encourages children who might otherwise be reluctant to join a literacy activity to participate. With the added bonus of clean hands when they are finished!
FRIDAY FIELD TRIP
On Friday we celebrated the end of our Pet study with a trip to a residence to see many exotic birds. Even though we sang "rain rain go away!" it was a wet day and so we didn't get to see as much as we hoped. But rain never stops play for PK3 and armed with umbrellas we were able to feed the Black Swans, see the Parrots and feed the Chickens. The Flamingos were a magnificent sight and the children counted 7 of them in total. I encourage you to ask you children about the animals they saw during the trip; what they observed about them, their habitats and what they were eating.
We are very thankful to our moms Carmen (Sofia's Mom), Alessandra (Maria's Mom) and Claudia (Lorenzo's Mom) for assisting us on this trip and organizing snacks. Also a big thank you to the family we visited for their thoughtfulness in arranging a magician to entertain the children. They thoroughly enjoyed meeting the Rabbit who popped out of his hat at the end of the show!
