Sierra School Scoop
February 13 - February 17, 2023
Principal's Message...
Hello Sierra Families,
If your child will be out of school for an extended amount of time (over 3 days) you may request Independent Study, up to 14 school days. In order to ensure an appropriate amount of time to put together meaningful school work during the absence, we ask for a 2-week notice of the planned absence. Please contact our office and your child's teacher in advance to notify them ahead of time. Thank you for your help with this.
In honor of Super Bowl Sunday, we’re having a spirit day on Monday, February 13th… Sports Day! Students and staff, it’s time to express your team pride. No matter the team or the sport, show off that sports apparel. We look forward to seeing all the teams that our Dragons will represent.
Registration for Spring After School Enrichment Classes also starts on Monday. See the Family Resource Center section below for more information.
Have a great weekend,
Reagan Phillips

Library News
Hello Dragons!
We are now kicking off our California Young Reader Medal program! This week we read The Good Egg written by Jory John and illustrated by Pete Oswald. This is the first nominee out of five that we will be reading. Ask your kiddo if they remember the clue for this book (an egg). A great story about an egg that always behaved well and always did good things for others. He lived with eleven other eggs that were often naughty. Being such a good egg put too much pressure on him and he started to crack up, literally! He decided to leave the group and find peace on his own. As time went by his cracks started to heal and then he decided to go back home because he missed the other eggs. After learning how to take time for himself, he also learned that it is ok to also have a little fun like the other eggs once in a while. Next week we will introduce our second nominee, I can’t wait to show them the clue for that story! AR prizes went out for 2-5th graders this week. Keep reading so you can earn more prizes for March! Remember, good things happen when you read!

Hammer Headlines
And, just like that, we're already into mid February. The end of the trimester is closing in. A reminder that students start with a three in both participation and sportsmanship. During the entire trimester I have each student ten times. Because of the small sample size it is essential that students put effort in and are respectful and kind at every class. We will be on the black top this week.
Primary students will be doing relays and activities with jump ropes. Students will learn how to jump over a rope while swinging it themselves and also different levels of Mr. Snake (the jump rope) moving around for them to jump over. This week I added five jumps on their own and some grades will be using the parachute. They will also be playing fishy fishy and red light green light. We will continue to do warm ups and stretch head to toe.
Third to fifth grade students will be doing relays with jump ropes and basketball skills. Students will be doing jump rope relays and individual jumping. They will also do a set of basketball skills and rules each week. Added this week will be basketball shooting. Students will also do relays, warm-ups and stretch head to toe.
