Principal's Corner
Dear Lake Forest High School Community,
A Friday and the first day of Spring Break–well deserved and well needed by everyone. Whether you are staying at home or traveling during this break, I wish you all a safe and relaxing time.
It's hard to believe spring break is already here and the school building will not be filled with our students' energy next week. I plan to take some time away, too, but I will look forward to welcoming our Scouts back to the building on April 3rd–and the mad dash to the end of the school year!
As many of you are aware, District 115 has placed a referendum on the April 4 election ballot. I understand this can be a complex issue, and I want to make sure that everyone has access to accurate and informative resources.
The District has created a dedicated page about the referendum on our website, which includes details on what the referendum entails, financial and tax implications, and frequently asked questions. You can also view several videos which show many of the spaces that would be impacted by the referendum. I believe it is crucial for everyone to understand the facts and make an informed decision before casting their vote and encourage you to learn more.
As we approach the upcoming election day, I also wanted to remind everyone that early voting is now open at Lake Forest City Hall.
Wishing you much rest and relaxation,
Erin

SCOUTS NEED TO KNOW
D115 Referendum Information
What's In the Referendum?
This plan has no fluff, frills, or extras. What began as a $160 M scope of work, was reduced to $140M, and finally - based on careful Board consideration and community feedback - $105.7M. This covers only the basics, including roofing, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, historic windows, lighting, masonry, safety and security systems, ADA accessibility enhancements, student support spaces, updated science labs, and updated classrooms. It does not pay for salaries or administrative expenses.
Videos describing each category of work may be found here:

Reminders From The Deans' Office
We are starting the 4th quarter so we wanted to send some reminders from the Deans' Office regarding the LFHS Attendance Procedures.
ATTENDANCE POLICY:
Students who exceed nine absences per class per semester will be considered “under review” by the Deans’ Office. The nine absences includes all Parental Excusals (P) and Unexcused absences (U)
Students that are “under review” will have one or more of the following actions:
- A meeting with parent/guardian, student, teacher and dean
- An attendance plan created for the remainder of the semester
- Possible grade reduction
- Removal from class and enlisted in credit recovery
The nine absences does NOT include absences where a student is sent home by the nurse (N), working with a counselor or social worker (C or SS), on a field trip (FT) or College Visit (CV - please see the school’s policy in the handbook in regards to number of allowed/excused visits), Medical emergency where a student is not allowed in the building per a doctor’s note (M), Quarantine due to COVID19 (Q)
Please take a look at your student's attendance on PowerSchool to see where they stand. Remember, you are looking for P and U. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to your student's dean. We are here to help. Thank you for your support in this matter.
ATTENDANCE MATTERS!!!

Project Safe Prom
The Junior Class and the APT have been excitedly planning the "Dancing in the Moonlight" traditional Prom at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare for Saturday, May 6th since the beginning of the school year. Now it is around the corner!
Project Safe Prom officially launched last week and we need your support. Did you know the LFHS Prom is completely self-sustaining and we rely solely on ticket sales, junior class fundraising and your generosity? Your donations will help fund a truly magical experience for our LFHS students. Each ticket will remain $95 per person, which includes plated dinner, entertainment, transportation, and security. However, the actual cost to host prom far exceeds the ticket price. We are looking to our generous community to help raise $35,000 to underwrite various costs associated with this event, such as the transportation and security.
Any contribution you are able to make is tax deductible and greatly appreciated! Click the link or scan the QR code below to get started. THANK YOU!

Deerpath Community Park Improvement Project
The City of Lake Forest is beginning construction on the Deerpath Community Park Improvement Project - located at the Lake Forest Recreation Center, behind Deer Path Middle School. The project involves installing synthetic turf athletic fields and additional amenities for the community park. The majority of construction activities will be confined to the project site, which includes Deerpath Community Park fields and tennis courts behind DPM. The City has been extremely collaborative and intentionally timed the launch of this work to be the least disruptive by scheduling start during the week DPM is closed over Spring Break. The contractor will also work to limit activity during pickup and dropoff times at the school. For reasons of safety, drivers are asked to follow all directional signage. Please note that the fields behind DPM will not be used by our students during construction. Outdoor activities will be diverted to other DPM outdoor spaces. We appreciate your patience. More information about the Deerpath Community Park Improvement Project may be found at http://www.cityoflakeforest.com/DeerpathPark
