News From the Principal
Dear TES Families,
The district has released an updated K-12 covid decision tree. Found here: UPDATED DECISION TREE
The biggest changes are as follows:
1. Students and staff who test positive for COVID may now return on Day 6 IF they get a negative rapid test (from a facility or the school- at home tests are not accepted since proof is required) AND symptoms are gone (or improving and no fever). Day zero is the day of the positive test or the first day of symptoms- whichever is first. They also must be able to self-monitor for symptoms, properly wear a face covering over their nose and mouth as required, use good hand hygiene practices, and use good cough and sneeze etiquette. These conditions may be difficult to meet for many of our younger students. PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD BACK ON DAY 6 WITHOUT APPROVAL FROM THE SCHOOL FIRST and submission of the negative test results.
2. For Staff and Students who have any covid symptoms:
-A negative Rapid Antigen is all that is needed on Day 5 of symptoms or later to return. Proof is required so at home rapids are not accepted.
-To return before day 5, a negative PCR would be needed
The Close contact policies have not changed:
If your children are close contacts outside of school to anyone who tested positive (and they are not fully vaccinated) they must quarantine away from the positive individual. If they can do that, and they have no symptoms, and they get a negative test on Day 5 or later (PCR or rapid done at school or outside agency that can provide documentation), and no one else in the household tests positive, they can return to school on Day 8. Day 0 is last day of exposure and Day 1 is the first day they are able to isolate away from the close contact. If anyone else in the household tests positive then Day 1 starts all over again from the last day of exposure to the latest person to test positive. If they can't isolate from the positive case then it is a 14 day quarantine period.
If your child was a close contact IN school (and qualifies for Modified IN-School Quarantine) you will hear from us with follow up steps.
If your children fall into any of these above categories please report this and their absence to the front office. Once reported, teachers will be in contact about providing student work during their absence.

Our friendly Friday spirit day competitions are back! the class(es) that have the most spirit (meaning most kids wearing a school shirt OR red or yellow) over the loud speaker will win extra recess!

Hello Tierrasanta Families!
This pandemic is difficult for numerous reasons. Social aspect is one of them. As humans, we are social and our brains thrive in company of other people. We are helped by knowing we are not alone; not physically, or emotionally, or in our struggles of which we all have more than ever these days. While reassuring children everything is okay has a place, authenticity and not hiding our own struggle (at least to the extent their age makes it appropriate) is a powerful tool in children not feeling alone with the difficult emotions they experience at times. Them knowing adults have strong emotions too, we also do not enjoy many of them, and showing them how we cope with overwhelming emotions - those are all so very helpful for children. We show kids how to make pancakes or ride a bike before expecting they do it. Emotion management is the same - it's learned best with role models being vulnerable and authentic - in age appropriate ways.

Students and staff may now test for free at the Ed Center (4100 Normal Street 92103- inside the SanDi Coast Cafe) on the following times and dates:

FOOD SERVICES - NEW MENU ITEMS ALERT AND SUPPLY CHAIN NOTIFICATION
Lunch menus are getting a few new features:
Tuesdays - Chicken Smackers(whole grain breaded popcorn chicken)
Thursdays - Sliced Cheese Pizza or Pizza Nada
Due to nationwide supply chain issues, menu substitutions should be expected.
The School Nutrition Association has a video to explain how disruptions in the supply chain impact school nutrition programs . Feel free to share with your community.

Weekly Recycling at TES!
Each Friday from 7:10-7:30, please feel free to drop off your aluminum cans and plastic bottles to Mr. Murphy and the recycling team! They will be stationed out in front of the school office each week. You can just pull up and we will unload your recyclables for you! All proceeds benefit our students directly in the form of playground equipment and other special items!
Reporting an Absence: Please contact Ms. Angela to report your child's absence (and the reason for it) by 8:30 each morning. Email, text or leave a voicemail 619-605-2500. email@example.com. If your child is a close contact of someone who tested positive for Covid please keep them home and contact the nurse's office right away. They will inform you of the process that will need to be followed based on your individual situation.

Each day before coming to school, families need to check for COVID symptoms using the Daily Student Symptoms Checklist - we trust that you will self screen and keep sick children home).
All students should have their devices at home with them over the summer (even exiting 5th graders) as devices now follow the student (to whatever district school they attend).
