District News
Spring ISD Annual Update Process for Returning Students is Now Open
The annual update process for returning Spring ISD students for the 2020-21 school year is now open. All parents and guardians should verify and update their child's information before the first day of remote learning on Aug. 17.
Parents and guardians should access the online registration by logging into the district’s my.springisd.org portal, going into the Home Access Center (HAC), finding the Registration Icon, selecting the Update Enrollment tab, and then following the directions on the site to access the Returning Student Registration Form. Parents with more than one student in the district will need to complete a separate registration for each child, returning to HAC and repeating the steps for every student.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to complete this important process for their students as soon as possible so campuses can plan appropriately for the upcoming school year and so that students can receive all the information and resources they need to start school remotely on Monday, Aug. 17.
If parents have trouble logging into the MySpringISD portal, or have additional questions, they can visit www.springisd.org/returning-students or contact the district support number at 281-891-6337.
More Parent Sessions added on Schoology and the Home Access Center
We’ve added more virtual parents sessions on Schoology and the Home Access Center (HAC) - two important tools that will help ensure student success.
Participants will learn more about Schoology, the district’s learning management system. All students will be using Schoology this year to access their classes and their assignments. Come learn how to navigate the site and experience how your students will be using this important tool.
In addition, we’ll show parents how to log into the mySpringISD portal to access HAC, where they will be able to track their child’s grades, attendance and report cards.
We know how important parent support is to ensuring student achievement, so please join us so you’ll be familiar with these important digital tools.
The sessions will be held on:
Monday, Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. (English)
Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 6 p.m. (Spanish)
Remote Learning Schedule is NOT reflected in HAC
Parents, your students’ schedules are now available in the Home Access Center. With remote learning starting on Monday, please be aware that the HAC schedules are for “on campus learning” and will not fully align with the remote learning day. Please look for communication from your child’s teacher with your child’s remote learning schedule.
If you do not receive communication from your child’s teacher when your student should log on for their first class, please check out the remote learning schedule on our school’s website.
When public health conditions allow for in-person learning, we will be following your child’s schedule on HAC and our bell schedule for on-campus instruction for those families who have chosen that option. Until then, please have your students “school and camera ready” at the time listed in our remote learning schedule. We will be using this start time at least for the next four weeks or through Sept. 11.
If you have any questions about your student’s schedule, please contact 281-891-8240.
Harris County Announces Free COVID-19 Testing with Shorter Wait Times and Faster Results
Harris County Public Health announced that Harris County’s two stationary COVID-19 test sites in Pasadena and Cy Fair are getting a big boost from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Texas Department of Health and Human Services (DSHS). The state and federal government are providing thousands of additional test kits and lab capacity, for quicker test results, in 3 to 5 business days.
There is a new and separate website to register for Surge Testing: www.doineedacovid19test.com or call 832-927-7575. To get tested at the surge sites, people must be 13 or older, register and select an appointment time and keep their assigned voucher ID, which is required for testing. They also need to keep the username and password they registered with because they will need that to get their test results, in 3-5 days. Surge Sites are open Monday-Saturday and now have evening hours one day a week at each site: Tuesdays in Cy Fair at Pridgeon Stadium from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursdays in Pasadena at San Jacinto College Central Campus, also from 4 to 8 p.m.
HCPH also stated that mobile test results are faster now for the mobile test sites, 2 to 4 days. Sign up online at www.hcphtx.org or by calling 832-927-7575. This is a different website than the one above for Surge Testing. Children can be tested at mobile sites. Since all test sites offer drive-through testing, extreme heat or storms may cause sites to close temporarily.
Mobile sites change location weekly and are open five days, Monday-Saturday, and closed one weekday. For all locations, you must register and take the self-assessment to get an authorization code to be tested.
Mobile locations for the week of August 10-15, Monday-Saturday are:
• Dueitt Middle School 1 Eagle Crossing, Spring, TX 77373 Closed Friday, August 14
• El Franco Lee Park 9400 Hall Rd, Houston, TX 77089 Closed Tuesday, August 11
• Flukinger Community Center 16003 Lorenzo St, Channelview, TX 77530 Closed Wednesday, August 12
• Bear Creek Park 3505 War Memorial Dr, Houston, 77084 Closed Thursday, August 13
Visit www.hcphtx.org for COVID-19 updates and resources.
Want to Buy Your Own Device for Back-to-School? Here’s What You Need to Know
Whether families choose the district’s Safety-First In-Person option for the 2020-21 school year or Empowered Learning At-Home, Spring ISD students will experience distance learning for at least some portion of the upcoming year. Although the district is doing its best to make as many Chromebooks as possible available to loan out to families, many parents and guardians have been asking about buying devices for their students.
The good news is that devices that meet the basic specifications for Google Classroom, Schoology, web browsing and other necessary applications don’t need to be high-end computer models. Less expensive, basic laptops running Microsoft Windows 10 and Chromebook computers should work just fine.
Spring ISD is currently purchasing the Lenovo 300e with the following specifications.
11.6" Touchscreen
Intel Celeron N4020 Processor (2nd Gen)
4GB memory
32GB storage
Wireless network with Bluetooth
Built-in Camera and microphone
Please Note: The Lenovo is not a required model, any Chromebooks with the same basic processor, memory and storage capabilities will work.
Other important features to look for include:
Built-in wireless networking technology – allowing the device to easily connect to Wi-Fi networks at home and elsewhere
Built-in Bluetooth – allowing simple, wireless connection to a range of Bluetooth-enabled devices such as headphones, speakers, wireless printers and keyboards, and even mobile phones
Built-in front-facing camera and built-in microphone – for use during online learning sessions with teachers and classmates
If you can find a device with a touchscreen, that might be a plus, too, especially for younger students who may not be as comfortable using a computer mouse or trackpad.
Parents looking to purchase a new or used laptop, tablet, Chromebook or other similar device to support their student during Empowered Learning At-Home have many options to choose from. Most new devices sold these days will meet or exceed these specifications. Gently used or refurbished devices can be a great money-saving option, too, as long as you purchase them from a seller you trust.
For parents who want to borrow a district-issued Chromebook for their student, we will be sending out more details on the distribution and check-out schedule soon.

Student Code of Conduct Updated to Reflect Changes Related to Pandemic
The district’s 2020-21 Student Code of Conduct has been updated to reflect revisions and additions related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Specifically, the handbook now includes guidance around how students are expected to behave to promote safety when health conditions permit in-person learning on the campuses, including maintaining social distancing procedures, handwashing, wearing masks and keeping mouth and nose covered while sneezing and/or coughing.
Students could face disciplinary action for purposefully trying to cough or sneeze on another person, refusing to adhere to social distancing standards, and removing personal protective equipment like a mask with the goal of trying to harm or threaten another person with bodily fluids.
Students who show up to school without a mask or refuse to wear one during the school day may also face a dress code violation. The expectation is that all students come to school wearing a face covering, just as they would adhere to dress code. The goal is to keep everyone in our school safe, including students and staff.
To view the entire Code of Conduct, please click here. Parents without ability to download the Code of Conduct may request one in print by emailing Thomas Graham, the director of Student Affairs at tgraham@springisd.org.
Low-Cost Internet Options for Eligible Families
With all students learning remotely from the start of school on Aug. 17 until at least Sept. 11, some of our families are wondering whether they have the internet bandwidth to support online coursework during Empowered Learning At-Home.
Internet connectivity is an important consideration for students learning at home, and the district is working to provide multiple supports to help our families, including arranging mobile hotspots and boosting campus internet so that the district’s Wi-Fi network is accessible from school parking lots. However, there are also special offers on low-cost internet that qualifying families may want to consider.
Specifically, both Comcast Internet Essentials and Access from AT&T offer home internet service for around $10 a month. These specially priced plans require an application, and are designed to assist families who might also qualify for public assistance programs such as the National School Lunch Program, Housing Assistance, Medicaid, SNAP and SSI.
Spring ISD Introduces a New Look for its MySpringISD portal
On Aug. 10, the mySpringISD portal will feature a new look for staff and families, where they can access all of their digital resources, including Schoology and the Home Access Center.
The new portal features a cleaner, more modern look and allows users to customize their folders and add their most frequently used sites to their profile. In addition, the single sign-on option gives parents, students and staff instant access to all their online resources from any device and any location. So parents, students and educators will have everything they need to learn from home.
“We’re excited about this change and creating a better experience for our families and staff,” said Technology Officer Jeffry Kohrmann. “It also gives us better tools and data to make sure we’re optimizing the portal for all of our users.”
To get started, log on to my.springisd.org, and sign in by using your current Spring ISD network login username and password.
If you forgot your log-in/username, please contact your campus or call the district’s help line at 281-891-6337.
