Weekly Newsletter
Oceans
Dear Parents,
This week we started talking about oceans and the different characteristics of this massive part of our earth. During the course of the unit we will be talking about the different animals that we can find, specifically sea turtles, sharks, octopus, and fish. At the end of our unit we will have the opportunity to experience first hand this wonderful life form in the Centro de Exhibiciones Marinas Smithsionian located in El Causeway. We will keep you updated on this fieldtrip!
Morning Routines
Salt Water vs Fresh Water
As part of our Morning Routines, we try to include different activities that teach different aspects of our units. In this activity we tasted the difference between salt water and fresh water. Their reactions were amazing!!
ABC
Writing letter at this age can be very tricky for them. In this activity we used out bodies to create different letters. This will give the opportunity for children to really get the sense of straight lines and curved lines in capital letters.
Land Animals and Ocean Animals
We classified different ocean animals depending on if they swim or if they walk.
Class Pet
Rainbow
This Tuesday we welcomed out class Pet "Rainbow". Students will have to take responsibility in taking care of our fish and feed him every day. We will be looking at how he swims, what he eats, and his general activities through out the day. It will be a great way to learn more about oceans.
Commotion in the Ocean
This week we read the story "Commotion in the Ocean" by Giles Andreae. We looked at different types of animals that we can find down under and what each of them does. It was fun to paint their favorite animal of the story.
Choice Time
Integrating objects relating to the ocean allow children to interact directly with the topic while they explore and use their 5 senses to learn. Check out some of the things we did in each choice area.
Math Area
Finish the Octopus by placing the correct amount of dots in each tentacle.
Play-dough Area
How about placing mixing sand with play dough to create something new!
Toys and Games Area
Puzzles help children with their hand-eye coordination. Look at how Camilo completed his puzzle of the different Ocean animals.
Sand Table
Using their sense of touch to explore the sand table will allow children to get to know close and personal the characteristics of shells.
Dramatic Play
Using your imagination is key to develop problem solving skills. In the dramatic play we placed a submarine where they can act out their stories under the sea.
Drawing Area
Let's differentiate Land and Sea animals by drawing them.
Art Show
On Friday April 24th we will be holding the Pre-Kinder Art Show. This year we decided to use recycle materials for our creations, that is why we are asking all parents to help out by send the items listed in the letter below. Lets make an effort to help out our planet!
