CHECK OUT THE NEW STAAR & TELPAS ASSESSMENT FORMAT!
2nd - 5th grade students - NEW ASSESSMENT FORMAT
All students, 2nd -5th will be taking their state assessments online. WE NEED YOUR HELP & SUPPORT! This is a new format and
ESL/BILINGUAL 2nd -5th grade students - Take TELPAS
ALL 3rd - 5th Grade students - Take TAAR TESTS LAYOUT
All state assessments will be online. The new format will have different types of questions, other than multiple choice like they are accustomed to. Students, even in 2nd grade (TELPAS) will have to type responses for some of the questions.
None of our students are not familiar with the new layout and it will definitely take some time for them to get used to. There are lots of accessibility features that are available to students, but they will need lots of practice to learn how to use these tools, prior to testing. So, to get our scholars ready, we must work together to get them prepared to take their TELPAS/STAAR using this new format!
Some tips to help your child prepare:
Have your child practice typing
Have them get used to spelling words correctly and not how they spell when they text.
Have them practice typing sentences or responses. Ask them a question and make them type a one to three sentence response
Review your child's accommodations if they are Sped, 504, RtI, or ESL/BIL
Visit the TEA website to practice using and navigating the TELPAS/STAAR system
Reiterate how important it is to focus and not just click or rush through online tests
Review the different tools and features with your child

GoGuardian Partnership
We are starting to get alerts from GoGuardian about inappropriate computer use from our scholars. It's imperative that we work together to supervise and monitor our students, while using devices. Take time to read the article below and discuss these safety tips with your children. Monitor your child's computer use! Many students are not engaged in Homework assignments, but we have noticed that their computer usage time averages between 2-4 hours a day. This tells us that students prefer online activities more than paper and pencil. However, let's ensure these online activities are appropriate and aligned to the standards our scholars are expected to know!

Department of Guidance & Counseling and Mental Health Implements Mindful Mondays
Due to the increased number of students experiencing anxiety, the Department of Guidance & Counseling and Mental Health is implementing Mindful Mondays. The Mindful and OHMazing® Strategies for Students and Teachers (MOSST) curriculum directly aligns with the district’s strategic priority of Well-Being, in which the goal is to increase the percentage of staff and students that report an improved feeling of physical, emotional, and digital safety.
Every Monday, all elementary campuses will replace Quaver SEL time with a mindfulness activity from the Mindful and OHMazing® Strategies for Students and Teachers (MOSST) curriculum. Campuses may add additional Yogiños Mindfulness implementation to any other part of their day as needed and as approved by the campus principal.
Campus counselors will receive an email each week with a research-based self-regulation tool to be implemented on Mondays. Counselors will collaborate with teachers to help implement.
