McKinney North High School
Bulldog Bulletin - 10/13/2016
Last week’s email was a little lengthy, so I will try to keep this one brief. As you all know the grading period for report cards will end this Friday, October 14th. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s grade you will want to contact their teacher for specific information. While there are several calendar events that I want to remind all parents about, there are a few special events that I would like to showcase this week.
This year, some of our MISD counselors will be presenting a series of one hour talks for parents. The talks will cover a variety of issues to help parents support their children in high school. High school is a very busy time for our kids, and is much more rigorous and demanding for students than 20 years ago. Understanding some of the stressors as well as healthy ways to relieve adolescent stress are important tips for all parents. The first talk, “Managing Stress without Substances: Coping with Life’s Pressures” will be held on Tuesday, October 25th at 6:00pm at Faubion Middle School.
In addition to the parent talks being offered, the MNHS Counseling team will also continue with Parent Coffees. This month the Parent Coffee will be for parents of students in the Junior Class. The Junior Parent Coffee will be held on November 7th, here at MNHS from 8:30am – 10:30am in room G119. The topic of the Junior Parent Coffee will be college preparation. Please join us on November 7th.
MNHS is always looking for ways to bring our community together and support our school. We have a great fund raiser going on this Saturday October 15th, from 9am – 5pm at the MNHS Student parking lot. We are asking parents and students to come and participate in the Drive 4 UR School event. We need 300 volunteers to test drive one of 16 new cars. Drivers must have a valid driver’s license and be at least 18 years of age. We also need co-pilots that would be willing to ride in the cars during the test drive. Please use the link below to sign up:
Along with the information above, other important information for parents and students is listed below:
October 19th – PSAT exam day. Please remember that ALL 10th graders will be taking the PSAT. Any 9th or 11th grader that has signed up and paid for the exam will also be taking the exam on Oct. 19th. All students participating in the PSAT should bring a sack lunch, a graphing calculator, and two #2 pencils. Seniors will have a late arrival of 10:15 if they are passing all classes for the first Nine Weeks, all other students not participating in PSAT will have a normal schedule.
October 24th – NO SCHOOL – Parent/Teacher Conference Day – Parent/Teacher conference day is a little different at High School. Due to the fact that most of our teachers serve over 125 students they are unable to meet face to face or make contact with every parent on Oct 24th. However, if you would like to have a face to face meeting with a teacher you may contact them to set up a meeting time on October 24th or another day if they already have full schedule for the 24th.
October 28th – Deadline for purchasing and submitting a senior ad for the 2017 yearbook (Reflections). This year’s ads will be created by parents online at www.jostens.com/yearbooks-ads, but any parent or student with questions or concerns about the ad process can contact Ms. Carmichael at email@example.com for more information.

More Information About Drug Take-Back
The City of McKinney, in partnership with the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, participates in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Nationwide Drug Take-Back event twice per year. At the Drug Take-Back event, participants can safely dispose of all accumulated expired, unwanted and unused prescription drugs. The service is free and anonymous. You do not have to be a resident of McKinney to participate.
Participants may dispose of medication in its original container or by removing the medication from its container and disposing of it directly into the disposal box. If an original container is submitted, the individual should remove any identifying information from the prescription label.
All solid dosage pharmaceutical product and liquids in consumer containers may be dropped off. Intravenous solutions, injectable substances and syringes will not be accepted due to potential hazards posed by blood-borne pathogens.
Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse and abuse. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet.
