Cape's Mission & Vision
Vision: We believe that the most promising strategy for achieving the mission of Cape Elementary is to develop our capacity to function as a professional learning community.
Message from Ms. Osterholm and Mrs. Sund
Dear Cape Elementary Families,
Cape Elementary is proud of our “A” school grade by the Florida Department of Education. Our students, teachers, staff, volunteers and community members are to be recognized for their commitment and dedication to Cape. We are so proud!
We welcomed 125 new Kindergarten families and over 60 new students across the other grade levels this school year. Our parent teacher group, PTO, and our volunteer coordinator are ready to recruit new members for our many fun and exciting events that are scheduled this year. Please consider giving your time to help! This is a great way to meet other parents and to be part of the school’s support system.
As we strive for excellence, we welcome your involvement. Communication is vital to our students’ success and to our overall growth and sense of community. To increase communication between home and school, we are requiring all parents to sign the planner each night and our teachers to sign each day. Please take time to read the Student-Parent Handbook in the back of the planner and also our school calendar. We also encourage you to frequently visit our website, follow us on Twitter and Facebook along with reading teacher communication that comes each Friday or Monday in the brown envelope.
We continue to work on safety procedures with our staff, teachers and students. Please remember to keep your phone number and email updated during the year in the FOCUS Portal. Each time you come to the school you will need to provide your physical photo identification. Photo ID on phones is not permitted. If you are dropping off your child in the morning or picking up your child, you must remain in your car and go through the parent drop off ramp. Please see the safety section in this newsletter for more information.
We are honored and privileged to be part of the Cape family. We appreciate the phone calls, emails, offers to help and expressions of gratitude each day. We look forward to working together to make sure your student has a memorable and enjoyable experience at Cape Elementary.
Sincerely,
Ms. Osterholm and Mrs. Sund

Early Dismissal!
Safety Information!
We are excited to start our new school year with your child. Keeping our Cape students and staff safe is a top priority! We want to remind all of our families of some of the district’s safety protocols for arrival and dismissal.
It is important that you set a “primary” way that your child goes home each day. Your child will go home this way unless you write a note in your child’s agenda.
If you need to pick up your child early, it must be before 1:30.
If you have an emergency and need to call to change transportation, it must be done before 1:45 (this is for Parent Pick Up and CKC only).
All bus students must have a Cape ID tag on their backpacks with their bus number and bus stop. (Cape will provide this.)
All Parent Pick Up families must have a Cape issued PPU sign that is clearly displayed in their car window. If you don’t have your sign, you will need to park and walk up to Officer Ed on the sidewalk. Please be prepared to wait until a staff member and/or office can verify your ID and get your child for you.
When ID is required to enter a building or to pick up a student, the person must have and display a government ID card (Driver’s License, ID Card, Military ID, etc.) Photo ID’s on phones are not permitted.
These safety policies are implemented for the safety of our students and staff. You can read more about our safety policies and procedures in our student/parent handbook, The Code of Conduct, and the District’s website. If you have any questions or concerns regarding our safety procedures, please reach out to administration.
Performance Class Placement:
Cape Elementary students are grouped in classes based upon their educational performance. This structure enables our students to learn in an educational environment with students of similar needs and learning rates. At each grade level, we offer a continuum of classes ranging from intensive reading/language arts to enriched and gifted. In Grades 2nd to 5th we also have a co-teach model with two teachers in the classroom. Different resources and teaching strategies are used to provide optimal teaching and learning environments at every level. Your child’s academic needs and subsequent academic performance determine classroom placement. Teachers closely monitor student progress throughout the school year and may recommend a change in classroom placement to better meet the needs of a student.
