Lice News
Hawks View has had confirmed cases of head lice in various classrooms. Please take the time to check the hair of your students and family members on a regular basis. Head lice is a community concern, as they can be transferred from hats and clothing in stores, seat backs at restaurants, theater chairs, seats in vehicles, and stuffed animals, just to name a few ways to be exposed to lice. Please notify the office if your child has lice, so we can take steps to prevent an outbreak. This information is kept confidential. Visit our district website (scroll down) for more information on lice, and links to resources. If you have questions, please call the nursing staff located in the SHARE Center at 503-825-5488, or the Hawks View office.

Pre-Kindergarten Slots Available
Hello Sherwood Community,
We still have a limited number of spots available in our Preschool Programs here at the Sherwood School District. Our inclusive Pre-Kindergarten programs have the goal of offering high-quality early learning education that promotes social-emotional learning and academic skills students need to be successful in school and beyond. Our current programs are inclusive, providing rich early learning opportunities for typically developing children and children with developmental delays and disabilities. This is a tuition-based program, with financial assistance available for families who qualify.
To learn more you can check us out at https://sherwood.k12.or.us/departments/teaching-and-learning/early-learning-information/

Spirit Week, November 14-18
Show us your school spirit! Follow the Spirit Week calendar for the week of November 14-18. We can’t wait to see your favorite Disney characters, your favorite team sports and all the fun things we have lined up for you each day!
Focus on Attendance: Every Day Matters!
Sherwood School Districts’s chronic absenteeism rate has more than doubled since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Chronic absence (missing 10% or more of school) is an early warning sign that students are at risk of not reading proficiently by the end of third grade, struggling academically in middle school and dropping out of high school.
Getting back into the habit of daily attendance matters more than ever. As a district, we are committed to partnering with families to reduce chronic absenteeism. One step we will be taking is early communication to families notifying them of attendance concerns. If a student has missed more than 10% of the school year, the school will be reaching out to parents/guardians either with a phone call or a letter. Every day of school is an important opportunity for students to learn as well as connect with their peers and teachers.
Thank you for partnering with us to support your child to thrive and succeed in school through regular attendance. For tips on how to help your child build healthy attendance habits, see this helpful handout .
Message from Hawks View PAC
PAC is thankful for the great staff at HV! Below are two (of many!) ways to support teachers and other staff this year.
Staff Favorite Things List: If you are considering a gift or treat for a staff member this school year, click here for a list of all their favorite things!
Coffee Comfort Station: As a way to show gratitude and support for Hawks View staff, we are looking for donations of coffee pods to help stock a "Coffee Comfort Station.” Please use this sign-up link if you would like to contribute. Any questions email hospitality@hawksviewpac.org
Questions? Interested in getting involved at HV? Visit our website!
Volunteering?
We are so excited that volunteers are again being welcomed into the building and classrooms. There are many areas in which you can support the students and staff, but there are a few steps that every volunteer needs to accomplish beforehand:
Please fill out your district background check. Remember to click the "submit" button at the end! A background check needs to be completed each year and can take up to 10 days to clear. Please email volunteers@hawksviewpac.org when submitted, so we know to keep watch for your background check status.
Submit proof of vaccination or a vaccination exception form to the office. Exception forms can be found here: Medical Exception Request or Religious Exception request. Exception forms will need to be approved by our district office prior to volunteering.
Download the HelpCounter app! Please create a login and check the boxes for the areas in which you'd like to help. If you already have a HelpCounter account, please update your preferences so we know to contact you when specific needs become available. Examples of areas of interest include: popcorn day, picture day, bulletin boards, Art Lit, field trips and lots more!
If you have questions please reach out to volunteers@hawksviewpac.org
Here is a link to the PAC website, which has all the links you need to get involved! We can't wait to see parents and community members helping out!
