7th Grade Knights Team
New Mark Middle School, NKCSD
Announcements
We have one week left of our two-week water challenge/fundraiser, "Change for Change." So far the Knights team has raised $69. 51 to help earn money for a drill in South Sudan. Salva Dut's foundation Water for South Sudan will be receiving a check for all money raised by the students!
On Thursday, May 30 students will go outside and experience what it would be like if they had to walk with a jug of water on their head. All students will walk at least a half mile. 6th and 7th hours are competing against each other to see who can bring in the most money. So far 7th hour is winning! The students agreed that the "loosing" team would walk a mile with water on their head!
So far we only have 7 milk jugs that have been brought in... we could really use any and all extra jugs that you could donate!
The pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters students donate will help “change” the terrible water conditions many children live with in South Sudan. The teachers on the Knights team hope that our human spirits will be touched. We encourage students to bring change or do a chore to earn some change for change!
You can learn more about this organization at www.waterforsouthsudan.org
Lockers will be cleaned out 1st hour on Wednesday, May 29. Students should begin bringing things home on Tuesday so they don't have so much to carry on Wednesday!
On Wednesday, May 29 Mr. Anwander and I are purchasing pizza for the kids for team pizza party!
Mrs. Patterson is still needing to collect books from several students that have borrowed them from her classroom library. Please help your student find all of their missing books!
Yearbooks will be handed out to students on Thursday, May 30.
The LAST day of school will be a half day on Friday, May, 31st.
Thank you for all of your support this year. We wish all of you an enjoyable summer!!
CORE Classes
English Language Arts (ELA)
This week we will be doing a lot of fun extra-curricular activities around the novel A Long Walk to Water. On Wednesday, we will be playing a refugee simulation game called "Passages" outside with our whole team. After the debriefing of the simulation we will celebrate all of our team's reading success with our "Feeding the Reading Appetite" party. Price Chopper has donated ice cream bars, yogurt, granola bars and water bottles. Students had to read 100,000 pages as a team in order to win this party!
Honors ELA: Students will finish up their author study presentations on Tuesday!
Social Studies: World Geography
Students have taken on the Two Week Water Challenge with great excitement! They spent two days this week working on their RAFT project. They assumed different roles and either wrote letters, newscasts, diary entries, etc and were able to show with great success all that they've been learning this last month. I was impressed with all of the great writing that was turned in and the excitement that they showed in tackling this project!
Math
Science
In Science, we’ve continued our work with the Solar System and developing an understanding onwhere our planet fits in the scheme of things. Ask your student to show you the relative distance between the Earth and the Moon… You may be surprised!
